? about memory cards for digital cam

I purchased a 2.0GB SD mem. card for my Kodak EasyShare. After filling it with pics, I see that my printer's memory card reader is not going to recognize the card. It says that when I put it in. Also, leaving it in the cam and hooking it up with the usb cable to the computer does not work.
It works in all other ways.

My ? is that once I have the pics off the card (tediously copying 13 at a time to camera's internal memory) should I use the "format" option on my camera to re-format the disk? Why would someone need to reformat a disk otherwise?

I would format it after you get all the pics off. There are a few errors that you can get with memory cards that can be fixed by formating it with your camera. Once you format the card, try taking a few pictures with it and try extracting the pics with your printer. It may work once you format the card with the camera.
Also, for extracting pics. Just plug your camera into the computer via USB and then look at your My Computer screen, the camera should show up as a drive or device. You can then open the folder with all the pictures in it and copy them all at one time to your computer.

formatting the disk is just like formatting the hard drive. it has to know how to store the pictures.. as well as have the required information for the computer/printer to read it.

Thanks so much for the replies. I was hoping that formatting the card would make it work maybe. This is my fourth card, and I have never had to format the others. I am going on vacation this weekend to see Supercross and I wanted to be able to take video that would exceed what would be able to be copied to my internal memory.

Worse yet call its support hotline, sometimes some USB cards are not ment for some computers. I suggest you upgrade your drivers.
