Id like to open this up to peeps in UK and worldwide, I dont like the way us british people have to pay for privileged and bithright people to have an advantage, I prefer all are equal.. I got these quotes, they are not my words.

"The Crown Estate has long been and always will be national property, it is not the personal property of the Windsors and would not be ‘returned’ to them if the monarchy were abolished. The ‘exchange’ that monarchists believe happened in the eighteenth century, when the monarch was granted the Civil List was no exchange at all. It was an agreement that the Crown Estate revenue needed to be transferred to parliament because it was now parliament that had to pay for the state. Because the King had previously used the Crown Estate to pay for both the state and his own lifestyle the government of the day agreed a civil list to ensure he was financially secure"

There is no evidence that supports the claim that tourism would decline if we abolished the monarchy. As for the ‘great service’, again, where’s the evidence? ‘Self service’ would be a more appropriate phrase, the Windsors do all they can to further their own interests and protect their positions (and help themselves to public money). Some of them turn up to charity events or add their names to charities, but the vast majority of charities in this country, and most of the big names such as Oxfam, do not need or seek royal patronage.

*runs away..........but will return*

It doesn't bother me eitherway. My life is no better off or worse for having a monarchy.

Actually, it's better. I got a day off, a street party, and a bbq.

Well, I'm Irish so it's not that great a concern to me but from an outsiders perspective, I can see pros and cons. Cons : you all have to basically pay for them to do whatever the fuck they want but on the pros side you get a whole lot of tourists in wanting to see Buckingham Palace and those funny guards etc , it probably balances itself out, I reckon

I think it's such a romantic notion to have Kings and Queens and Princes and Princesses...... Keep them. The world needs a good real life fairy tale to follow.

My life is no worse or better with you guys having a monarchy either. :D

I'm sure everyone's opinion changes on the matter when the monarchy isn't popular like it was yesterday.

really really pisses me off when Canadian tax payers foot the bill for royal visits

you Brits can keep them - if you as a people want to however, it is high time the rest of us "commonwealth" countires grew up and cut the umbilical cord

Would you create an executive branch of gov't, or just go without?

There's alot (sorry, I do that alot) a lot to be said for keeping the monarchy for the sense of history and tradition.

I'm not honestly keen on the monarchy and never will do. We pay taxes for them to make a big deal over a wedding but when we want a wedding we have to pay for it and it's never global news unless you're a famous internet person on Twitter and Facebook.

I don't mind them at all, they happen to live like any ordinary people just that they happen to be super rich like any other royals. I can't stand these people who want to get rid of them just for some silly reason

Not global news? I am even shocked that people in the USA, the ones who became independent of the monarchy years ago really love the monarchy, ok, they may not like Prince Charles, but who does?

I think it might have something to do with the romance of tradition, I'm sure it appeals to a number of American's because in being such a young country, they don't have it to quite the same degree.

That's not a put down in any way, just a mere observation. :) I'm quite sure an equal number of American's couldn't care less. (not could care less.... Bloody yanks) :D
