This is very disconcerting. I hope everyone had their flu shots. So many deaths from the flu this year. The link lists each state's activity separately.

Haven't had mine and not planning to get one.
I am trying to be careful going out and about.
I am taken a cough drop daily and drinking tea...if all this is suppose to help.
I heard this flu system is about to peak...then hearing about this thing lasting until March.
We all have to be careful and cover our mouths.

Had my flu shot and pneumonia shot. Was in and out of the store in less than 5 minutes today. Hate going to docs when stuff like this is around. Between sick kids and adults it is too easy to catch something.

The flu shot that people are getting this year doesn't work for the strain that is infecting everybody. Several people I know who got the flu shot have gotten very sick already.

What flu virus is getting everyone sick then? I found this:

[h=2]What does the 2012-2013 flu vaccine protect against?[/h]Flu vaccines are designed to protect against three flu viruses that experts predict will be the most common during the upcoming season. Each year, one flu virus of each kind is used to produce the seasonal flu vaccine.
The 2012-2013 flu vaccine is made from the following three viruses:

  • A/California/7/2009 (H1N1)-like virus
  • A/Victoria/361/2011 (H3N2)-like virus
  • B/Wisconsin/1/2010-like virus
The 2012-2013 flu vaccine will not protect against the H3N2v flu, associated with exposure to swine, which resulted in more than 300 flu cases in 2011 and 2012.

I do know that getting a flu shot doesn't guarantee you will not get the flu, but if you do get the flu, it will lessen the severity.

I have no idea, actually...I just know that what my shift has come down with is apparently not the same strain that the shot this year protected them against. Also, the nasal mist that was given this year apparently wasn't effective and has been recalled, but that's just hearsay on my part and I don't have anything to back it up.

Why anyone would get an injection of a dead virus is beyond me... Natasha I've heard the same. A local news station posted an article on Facebook and numerous people said they were told the shot wouldn't protect them from this strain. People need to stop being so gung-ho about the flu vaccination...

I get that the flu shot is pretty important for elderly people, people w/ compromised immunity, and those in the health care field...I don't negate that. HOWEVER, as an individual, I think it should be left to personal preference. My neighbor and her husband allowed their son's fiancee to pressure them into getting the flu shot and they both got sick as a dog.

Gee! you all make me want to skip the docs and shopping totally. I never got them at all till last year. The docs have been on me for years to do it.

We had our flu shots and my son had the flu ( throwing up ) and bad stomach aches and fever.. It started on Friday and by Sunday he was much better.. Sure as shit he was going to make sure I got it.. :mad Well Sunday I woke up and felt like crap with a fever much like he had most of Saturday so I slept in all of Sunday and I already started to feel better..

I can't recall if it was an article or a doctor but I recall hearing the more you keep taking the flu shot, the more strains you build up an immunity to and can actually be protected from much of the pain of one of these flues.. Not sure how true that is TBH..

I am sure the one we just got was the mild one because it really had no umph to it.. That said I rather spend 2 days feeling like crap then a week.. And if it would have been the bad strain, well 4 days is much better then 2 weeks..

I hear that bad one has put some of the people I know out for 3 weeks.. Almost a full 2 weeks they could do nothing at all.

I had the shot and the wife didn't. We both got a bug like that twice this winter. Mostly intestinal and each time we got it a few days apart so at least one of us could look after the place while the other got over it.

Yeah, just because you get sick doesn't necessarily mean it's the flu. It could just be a stomach virus or a really bad cold.

I agree with Francis. If I do get the flu at least the duration will be shorter.

I will say that 2 of mine went to the doctor and were confirmed diagnosed with the flu. The other one, I think it was just a bug.
