A Simple Way You Can Promote Offtopicz

Don't yah just love when you find a forum that most of the people are cool and not disrespectful?

Yah want to help the forum prosper, but your just the typical keypuncher as most of us are. What can average Joe/Jane like me do to help make the forum grow? You may ask yourself.... God, I'm sounding like a commercial, Sorry!

We all Bookmark our favorite sites. But do this instead.

Bookmark this Google search.

offtopicz - Google Search

Click on this link then bookmark it. When you click on the bookmark, it will take you to that search and then you click on the Offtopicz.com link to access the site.

Why would you want to do this to help offticz.com grow?

I'll try to explain this in a simple way.

There is a complex thing call Search Engine Optimization that creates I sites PageRank. Higher PageRank means that people will find the site without clicking through a bunch of pages.

When I found this forum, I entered in General Discussion Forum wich is a very popular search term. This site was listed on page 100 and something. More than likely noone is going to find this site that far down the list.

But, the PageRank goes up the list as more and more people find the site and click on the search link. This is were you come in. Every time you login to this site you can tell Google that you like this site, buy clicking on the search link that you bookmarked.

If many of the daily visiters do this than the PageRank will grow and then before we know it in a few months we'll see more and more new users daily, because people a finding the site on google search.

After that the work is done and Offtopicz Google PageRank will grow by it self.

So please help get it up!

it is quite difficult to be first in the search results for "offtopic" on google when there is a site with the search term as its domain name. but we do provide a pretty good run in second

all due to joe ( that mdvoldosta guy ) he owns many sites, and seo's all them fuggers

Thanks for the support, though you've got pagerank alittle confused. It's only affected by incoming links, as in other sites linking to this one. The more links from those other sites, and of course the higher the pagerank pages they come from, the more it helps PR. PR though, in itself, only plays a small part in ranking for search terms. Also, Google doesn't follow links from it's own search pages (check their robots.txt), or from any of the other major search engines.

Bookmarking, or searching for Offtopicz may help to some degree as Google does track clickthrough's from their search results, though it's not much help unless you're searching for an actual search term. Those searching for Offtopicz aren't going to help us rank better for that term, considering we're already in the top position.

As far as ranking for "general discussion forum" or any other term, there really are no good search terms for this site (other than maybe "chat" - but that's way to competitive). Therefore, I don't do any SEO here other than basic site structure. FYI - "general discussion forum" isn't a competitive term, nor is it searched often. Overture and Wordtracker show an average of 8 searches per day for that term. I could rank for it in a few weeks if you want me to though, just say the word. Heh.

If you want to help Offtopicz, the best way to do that is linking to here from other sites with whatever search term you want to help with as the anchor text. Put a link in your signature or tell other sites and message boards you visit here. I just got 'alittle' serious about generating traffic for the site last week after changing the backend to vBulletin, so things should pickup in a month or so.

But since you have soooo much traffic comming here, I'm sure you know all about that kinda stuff.
