Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise will reprise his role from his 1986 classic 'Top Gun' for a cameo in a sequel to the same.
The screenwriter for the recently confirmed sequel to the movie has found a way to incorporate Crusie's 'Maverick' character into the new film and hopes the Hollywood star will join the cast, reports contactmusic.com.
A source informed that the project, which will be directed by Tony Scott has said that writer Christopher McQuarrie has penned a role for Cruise's character while a source close to the star also revealed that Cruise will agree to the 'smaller' part, providing it's not too 'obvious'.
39-year-old Scott recently confirmed that he is set to get behind the camera for the project, but the film will cover a completely new territory, in order to fit in with modern aviation technology.
'It's a whole different world now. These computer geeks - these kids play war games in a trailer and if we ever went to war or were in the Middle East or the Far East or wherever it is, these guys can actually fly drones', said Scott.
'I don't want to do a remake. I don't want to do a reinvention. I want to do a new movie,' he added.
