To all of my Democrat Friends:

Please accept with no obligation, impied or implicit, my
best wishes for an environmentally conscious, socially
responsible, low-stress, non-addictive, gender-neutral,
celebration of the winter solstice holday, practiced within
the most enjoyable traditions of the religious persuasion of
your choice, or secular practices of your choice, with respect
for the religious/secular persuasion and/or traditions of others,
or their choice not to practice religious or secular traditions at
all. I also wish you a fiscally successful, personally fullfilling
and medically uncomplicated recognition of the onset of the generally
accepted calendar year 2008, but not without due respect for the
calendars of choice of other cultures whose contributions to society
have helped make America great. Not to imply that America is necessarily
greater than any other country, nor the only America in the Western
Hemisphere. Also, this wish is made without regard to the race, creed,
color, age, physical ability, marital status, religious faith, or sexual
preference of the wishee.

To all of my Republican Friends:

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

Happy holidays would be just fine. :D

You're a reasonable guy Tim, so I'll ask you.

Are you honestly offended by somebody assuming that you celebrate Christmas and wishing you a nice one?

I've never really understood the hype over it. Even if you're not religious, the holiday is in fact called Christmas in America, and if you're celebrating, it may be for a different reason, but Christmas is still the name of the holiday in this country. ... Know what I mean?

Offended? Never.

I do celebrate Christmas and I say Merry Christmas if I know the person. But I do say happy holidays to anyone that I do not know because there is a chance that they may be Jewish or simply do not celebrate Christmas and my choice to say Happy holidays is one out of simple respect, not one of being PC.

Earlier in my life I had the experience of saying Merry Christmas to someone who was Jewish. They weren't offended, but they did correct me. That got me to thinking... why did I assume that they were Christian? Wouldn't it be more respectful to others faiths if I were to just say Happy Holidays? By saying that, it doesn't take anything away from my holiday... so why the hell not? I don't get my panties in a bunch over Happy holidays like some who truly believe that others are out to destroy Christmas... :dunno

That's actually pretty reasonable. The point I was mostly getting at though, was that the percentage of people who celebrate Christmas in America is probably higher than just about any other question you could put out there.

If I were to walk into a gay bar, it would be foolish of me to be offended by somebody trying to pick up on me. Likewise, I think it would be foolish for everybody in the bar to start out their pick up with some sort of question to make sure they weren't hitting on somebody who was straight. Know what I mean.

FWIW, I don't think everybody who says Happy Holidays is out to kill Christmas, but I'm sure you realize that SOME of them are. :D

Also FWIW, I get a kick out of it when somebody wishes me a Happy Hanuka. haha. I love talking with people about heritage I'm not around regularly.

Fuck, I don't even get offended if someone says "Merry Christmas" to me. I just don't care. I know in my mind that its not really Christ's birth so I can't be bothered.

I actually find that its people who say merry Christmas that get offended if you say "happy new year" or something. I actually started saying "Happy Kwanzaa" at work, just to ruffle people's feathers a bit. MWAHAHA!

I really don't see the problem with saying "happy holidays". Its just more inclusive.

I really don't bother with Christmas much but its very anal to actually give a shit about what holiday people are wishing you a happy one of, it's a greeting and said to be friendly ffs! Some peoples lives must be so sad if the've got nothing better to do than get all riled up over this.:smiley24:

Its not at all about me being riled up over it, just my amusement at the PC clowns of the world who always walk on eggshells
