:( The scale said I gained 5 pounds... I did over indulge last weekend as it was a party. The scale also showed a lotta weird numbers... I think I'll weigh myself again tomorrow and see what it says...

dont you think you are being a tad compulsive on this? everyone gains 1-3 pounds a day, I wouldn't sweat about gaining weight back unless it was a big amount.

Lol Zorak, ya...people don't gain that much weight unless they're consuming 4-10,000 calories per day hehe.
Body weight fluctuates a bit from digestion/water, I think that's what you mean, PJ?

Dana, don't let it get you too upset. Watch your sodium and simple carb intake for a little while, drink water, get exercise, and you'll see that 5lbs go away again.

Yea my weight can fluctuate up to 4 or 5 lbs in a day depending on how much I eat/drink, If I exercise and sweat out some fluid. If I'm "regular" so many factors. Some times for some reason I can weigh less before I go to bed than in the morning :/ ( not much less granted). Just depends what your body is doing.

More than likely most of that has to do w/ alcohol consumption (just going off a couple of your FB statuses that I saw). It's probably mostly water weight. Like Panacea said, cut down on your sodium intake and drink lots of water...watch your simple carb intake and walk a few more miles this week.

I would also say don't weigh as often. Give it a couple of days and then weigh again.

I partied more last weekend than i usually do so that could have something to do with it.

When working out, expect random loss/gain with 2-8lbs. As you build muscle, your weight will increase as it weighs more than fat. Get a clothing tap measure and use that to gauge loss. If your clothes sttart getting looser and falling off, it's still working.

Alcohol will slow down weight loss, as will caffine(coffee/soda)

Ugh...I know you're right about the caffeine, but I just can't bring myself to give up my coffee, LOL I do try to limit myself to 4 cups a day (2 before work and 2 at work) and 1 large glass of tea made w/ Splenda.

I wouldn't worry about that Dana, everyone's weight fluctuates by at least a few pounds day by day, it depends how much fluid you have in your body, when you're well hydrated you're weight will go up a bit, when you're under hydrated it will be down, it's water weight. Mine has been fluctuating between 190 and 200 lately.

I agree with Panacea, Tash and Dk especially in re: salt intake and water weight.

Rationale: salt from the junk food attracts water hence storing more water into your cells leading to the water weight.

Alcohol too, depends on what you drank contains lots of calories and makes other fats you've ingested to store them in your tummy hence also the term beer belly.

Caffeine however does not slow down weight loss as stated in a post. Caffeine is a stimulant hence it actually enhances one's weight loss due to it's effect on our body due to more energy to do things hence enhancing weight loss more. Caffeine is actually an added ingredient to most diet pills due to this feature.

The soda's effect on one's weight loss doesn't have anything to do with the caffeine as explained above. It's due to the sugar content and calories hence one's weight gain.

Try to weigh yourself same time everyday. Preferably in the morning b4 you eat/drink anything. It gives you a more accurate reading which we do with our patients.

Caffeine can cause cravings...that's the reason it's limited on South Beach.

Hmm...i need to read on that. So why is it an ingredient in most diet pills ??

Is it specified on South Beach as in caffeine in general or if it's contained in soda and coffee related specifically with the sugar contents or how much sugar one adds in coffee or tea ? All I know medically and scientifically, there is a rationale and caffeine's mechanism of action to it being a stimulant and by fact that sugar due to one's insulin metabolism etc is the one that causes cravings :willy_nilly:

I am open to learn though.....
