He reminds me of my granddad who did just about everything possible wrong for his health and died in his 90s, then again, he was Glasweigan! :D

[h=1]'Nanny state' warnings are rubbish, says man who drinks 40 pints a day[/h][h=2]A former pub landlord who regularly drank 40 pints a day has dismissed health warnings over alcohol as part of a ‘nanny state’.[/h]
icle-1327008277005-0F8864AE00000578-444296_636x336.jpg Ken Chappell reckons he's in good nick after drinking up to 40 pints a day (Picture: Corin Messer)
Ken Chappell said tests ordered by a doctor concerned about his beer belly showed his liver was normal, even though he used to consume 30 times the recommended intake.

The 78-year-old has now cut down to six pints a day from his heyday in the 1980s and 1990s.

But he criticised government health officials for allegedly overstating the effects alcohol has on the body.

‘We are consistently told that two or three pints a day will kill you, maybe not today, but in the future,’ he said.

‘But I’m 78, so when is it going to be my time?’

Health groups have called for bottled lager to carry health warnings similar to those used on cigarette packets.

But Mr Chappell said it was wrong for ministers to blame society’s problems on beer.

In 60 years of drinking, he has only appeared in court in connection with the two pubs he used to run near his home in Poole, Dorset.

Mr Chappell added: ‘I didn’t drink spirits but I drank beer every day and hate the way it is being blamed for everything that is wrong with the country nowadays.

‘I just think there are too many people telling us what is healthy and what is not in today’s Britain.

‘I am living proof they are wrong about a lot of things.’

Government guidelines state men should drink no more than four units of alcohol a day, equivalent to a pint-and-a-half, while women should limit themselves to three, which is about two standard glasses of wine.

I'd say, not for aloooooooooooooooong time! He probably just pisses his pants. I know, it's a one off and most people who lived his lifestyle would have been dead long ago but its still nice to see someone living life to the max with no adverse effect. :D:24::thumbup

Is also nice to see a challenge to the overbearing influence of the nanny state

No, no! You've got it wrong! People drinking alcohol are a burden on the NHS! The fact that tax on alcohol and tobacco pays the entire NHS cost three times over is neither here nor there! :D:sarcasm

I dislike that thing people do when they say something can't be that bad for you, because they know this one single old person who did the bad thing, and isn't dead yet.

I knew a guy whose grandfather was a farmer. When the man was in his 40's the doctor said he had to quit drinking or would never see 50 due to his heart

The guy could drink anybody under the table. He would close the bars every night. Did that until his mid 80's when he died in the fields working.

I agree this is not the norm. Most would never make it
