I've only hopped into the 3D band wagon just recently. When I say 3D in this thread, I mean the 3D wherein you need to wear some silly looking glasses like this:

I've watched G.I. Joe Rise of the Cobra, Star Trek and Avengers in 3D and I was really impressed. Whenever there's an explosion, it seems as though the debris are flying towards me. Cool. But do I find it worth the cost of admission? I think not. It's just a minor improvement over the 2D movies. Besides, I find the 3D glasses irritating because I already wear prescription glasses. What's your take on 3D?

Never seen a film in 3D and have no intention of doing so any time soon. How does 3D make a story more gripping, or a character more interesting? Those are the things that make me want to watch a film, not stuff flying out of the screen.

I have seen 3d movies that were great in 3d. But I have seen some that just sucked in 3d. I have also seen some I wish I had seen in 3d.

But the cost is never worth it. Plus I also wear prescription glasses and it does make it uncomfortable.

Personally, I still prefer the good old 2D movie watching. I do enjoy the thrills and out-of-this-world experience of 3D films, but there's too much going on sometimes - I prefer focusing on the movie itself.

I prefer 2D movies because they are just as good as a 3D movie. There's not much difference between the two except it looks like everything is actually flying at you in 3D. Plus the price for the movie is not worth it. When it comes out on dvd you are probably going to buy a 2D version unless you have a 3D tv.

In the theater the 3D experience can be great. I loved Avatar in 3D. I recently watched Monsters U. in 3D, and it was a great experience. I think a lot of the complaints people have has more to do with the 3D tv's. The technology in the tv's are ok, but not as good as the movies. Then there's this elitist crowd that shuns any new technology. This happened when movies went from black and white to color and when they started using the letterbox format.

3D in itself is alright, the problem is that many movies made in 3D don't benefit from it. The biggest improvements that 3D offers are epic battle scenes (think the assault on Helm's Deep in Lord of the rings) or vast land scapes (certain scenes in Avatar spring to mind, but some nature documentaries could use it as well). Objects coming out of the screen are cool, but it's not what 3D should be used for.

The only time I have enjoyed a 3-D experience was in an I-MAX theater. The 3-D glasses generally give me a headache. I do not like paying the extra fee for the 3-D when the film is no better to me in 3-D v. 2-D. When given the option I always choose 2-D.

There are different types of 3D technologies so it would also depend on which one it is where the movie will suck

I wish I would have seen Oz the great and powerful in 3d.

Me too. I saw it in 2D and the film was better than i expected, and i heard the 3D version was great. I saw Avatar in 3D and that was really good. Not keen on 3D on home TV though, it just makes me dizzy.

To me, the 3D feature is more a gimmick than it is a feature. Most of the films don't utilize the 3D feature properly, so basically viewing it in 2D makings no difference whatsoever. Besides, it's cheaper to view movies without 3D, so I think it's best you save a few bucks by watching them in 2D.

As a guy who wears glasses, screw 3D. It makes me have to choose between having 2 pairs of glasses on my face, seeing blurry 3D when I choose the 3D glasses over my prescription ones, and seeing blurry 2D when I choose prescription over 3D. The whole thing is just a cash grab in my opinion. It doesn't enhance the enjoyment of the film in any way and just ends up giving me a headache.

I suffer the same prescription glasses problem. It makes them uncomfortable on my face and friends have informed me you can waive the glasses fee and bring your own custom to the theater.

On another note, I would like a movie made to utilize the 3D aspects in the storyline as opposed to putting things in the movie for the 3D effect. Something smart in the vein of Inception but purposely incorporating the 3D into the storyline.

To me 3D movies are pretty damn cool, but 2D movies are fine for me. If I get the chance to go to a 3D movie I will but I wouldn't go out of my way to see one. I also have the same problems as a few other members that I have prescription glasses. This makes the 3D glasses very irritating.

If I go with my friend to the cinema I prefer 3D movies but when I am at home normal movies are my favorites. The old movies I like are not 3D, and the new ones are just silly so I don't enjoy watching the. The only movie I really liked in 3D was Avatar.

I suppose it's annoying to people with prescription glasses like you mentioned, but other than that, it's definitely worth it in my opinion. A few years back, when 3D made it's first big appearance in my country, I went to see Avatar in 3D. My mind was blown. The quality of the movie combined with all the added effects of 3D made it an unbelievable experience. However, for regular movies with barely any added visual effects, I think it's not worth the hassle. You'll only be irritated by the glasses and you won't really get anything extra from it.

So, go see some high budget movies in 3D, it's so worth it.

I prefer 2D movies at least for now. The 3d technology hasn't evolved enough to make 3d movies worth to watch, it makes them painful to watch sometimes and isn't that immerse in the cinema. Maybe in some years it will evolve into a better technology ( although Avatar really stand out, but nothing besides that.. ).

3D movies with those red/blue glasses are almost non-existent now. The ones that look like hipster glasses are what I typically see, and I feel they are just a waste since I don't get any added benefit from watching a movie where the stuff that pops out barely moves from the screen. If they put in a little more research and made it actually appear better, like they did with the bump from the red/blue glasses to the new ones, it would definitely be worth going to.
