CHESTERFIELD, Mo. (Jan. 29) - A retired electrician and World War II veteran is the winner of the largest lottery jackpot ever sold in Missouri - worth more than a quarter of a billion dollars.
Jim Wilson II, 84, and his wife, Shirley, 79, say they will share the money with three sons. One of those sons, Terry Wilson , who said he hasn't had a vacation in 30 years, likely will be headed to Australia for some rest and recreation.
The Wilsons, all of St. Louis, have been buying family Powerball tickets for years with the understanding that they'd share any winnings, the Missouri Lottery said.

*sigh* I was so delighted with my little windfall of $5 from a scratchie last week...until I saw the amount of that other winner's windfall; only now do I realise how misplaced my delight was...

That $5 bought me McDonald's for lunch. That's a good thing? Isn't it?

Seriously though, good luck to the gentleman and his family. :)

I can't understand why its always the old people that win the lottery. what the heck is up with that?

That's not always the case. It's usually the people that never bought a lottery ticket there whole life then all the sudden buy one and win.

they get a slice automatically, like 50k, especially since the winnings are big.

uh... where'd you hear that from? I've talked about a BP gas station that I go into a lot, they had a 300k winner on the Hoosier lottery and the people behind the counter didn't see a dime of it.

James is right(si) the person who sold the ticket doesnt get anything. its the place where the winning ticket was purchase gets the money. or the owners pocket.
