I agree. But would you consider him one of the BEST "Vocalists" ...not most popular, or sold the most records. He could "eee heee" pretty good;)

I would put the likes of Ian Gillen, Robert Plant and Freddie mercury ahead of mj as a "vocalist" any day....Steve Winwood is another.

But its all a matter of opinion I guess:)

a list like this is difficult, obviously the likes of sinatra should be up there, but theres great singers in alot of different genres...in that i could for instance say that jon bon jovi should be in the list because hes a fantastic singer,or its a surprise that theres no place for leona lewis...i'd have michael jackson no-where near the best ten,his popularity was image based not singing based, and he was hard to understand...and wheres pavarotti?...the perfect male voice

So by 'recent' we're talking anytime in the last 60 years, not just actual present day singers?

I agree with Sky, people like Leona Lewis and hell, Beyonce even could belong on that list. Regardless of what you think of their style, they've both got amazing voices.

We are talking "popular" singers. These are ones that sing everyday "radio" songs not classics or opera.

Can't be bothered to make a list but Kirsty MacColl, Bjork, Aretha Franklin and Freddie Mercury have got to be on those lists.

The singers "back in the day" didnt have the luxury of dubbing, and all the gadgetry they use now to make a voice sound better.

I cant think of many modern day singers that have a "naturally" good voice, and sound as good live as they do on disc...cept for maybe Xtina....that girl can sing.
