The U.S. is much bigger though so will take much longer to change.

Also, I feel life in the U.S. has much of a faster pace...maybe I'm wrong. But recycling takes time. That's the main issue for lots of people I think.

Changing habbits of a lifetime is hard!

Not if you just throw it into the correct bin in the first place. We have a garbage bin and a recycling bin next to our garbage can. On our street we don't even have to sort it out; they do it at the recycling plant.

It doesn't matter anyways. Even if we recycled 100% of the garbage coming out of our house; there would still be 70 times that up stream that was thrown away to manufacture that stuff. That's what we have to fix.

We recycle what we can, but it takes effort on our part, our part of the city hasn't developed a recycle program yet.

We are pushing for it though

We recycle cardboard, newspaper, and glass...and, in addition, we donate those recyclables to Happy Hour so it goes towards a good cause, too. ;) There is only one place around here that accepts plastic and the hours of operation are very very limited, so I have to admit we don't do that (it would pile up SOOOOOOOOOOOOO bad before we could get over there).

When I lived in Macon they actually gave you a recycling bin and a truck came by and collected once a week. I wish they'd do that here!!!

Yeah I recycle, how ever its aparently a weird way to do it! I always "reuse" electronics, for example an old portable cd player motor can be used for a small wind turbin, although all it will run is a retro fitted solar light! anything biodegradable is tossed into a heap and left to rott, stir once a month or everyother month, and in 1-2 years you will have the absolut best top soil you can buy, or sell(but dont put meet in your compost!)!!! I also remodled my house this summer, and all the old lumber windows and siding went into makeing my new green house, which also has a green roof(experament, succesful and thinking about doing it to my house next summer, also realy cool if your into gardening)!

now as for recycling papper products, no! when papper is recycled it releases more emissions, is more expensive, and has more additives than simply making more! but plastic bottle and tin cans are cheaper and more efficiant to recycle!

Where I live in Ireland we only get a refuse collection every 3rd week,on the weeks in between we have a recycling collection and also a bio-degradeables collection . Theres an annual fee for collection of the waste plus we also have to pay for a tag/label each week for both bins and also buy special bags to place our recycelables in.Talk about being ripped off for doing the right thing.

I am not the best recycler (is that a word?) in the world, but I do dump shredded paper in a nearby recycle dumpster when we get a bin full. So I voted yes.

in my area we have a habitat for humanity restore - any left over building materials or furniture you can give to them and they sell it to raise money for habitat for humanity - plus it saves landfills and gives the community cheap building materials

also we have a compost pile...we like to be really green

i recycle because we have to pay for it regardless of whether or not we want to recycle, so I may as well make somebody earn their paycheck. I otherwise don't go out of my way to recycle. However, we do have a great recycling program here if that's what you are into.

I certainly don't recycle for green peace ideas or to save the world as some would put it though. (Sorry but I find myself doing things in spite of the EPA because they have a twisted liberal mindset.)

I really can't be bothered. I don't mind if others do it, but I can't be bothered. I don't give a fuck what it does to the enviroment.

i've actually gotten way better since i made this thread, i recycle as much as i can, i even bother to break down the boxes food comes in. I even got my uncaring wife to recycle, just last night i caught her breaking down the boxes pop tarts come in and i asked her what she was doing and she said "i'm recycling these boxes." I think i had a little heart attack!:24:
