How do you give back?

Just wondering. What do you do to give back to your community? Or the world??

whenever we need to get rid of stuff, we take it to goodwill. Most of it is nice stuff, just either doesn't fit anymore (if its clothes) or we get new stuff to replace the old. I used to give it to friends but most of my friends have stuff now.

i donate money anytime there is a worthy cause...animal shelters...those St. Jude's balloon things for research, or whatever charity they are taking money for at the grocery store.

Sometimes I feel like I want to do more...but I don't really have many ideas.

I donate to the power company .. the monthly thing that helps elderly people have power for AC and heat.

I haven't done it in a while, but a couple years ago I made some rag-doll type kitty's and puppy's .. and donated 25% of my proceeds to a local no-kill shelter.

And I always buy my spay/nueter certificates from the Friends of Cats & Dogs - Spay/Neuter Program (they have this same type program in all states .. you just have to contact a local shelter to get the name). I also sugges tit to everyne else that I know (or anyone that I happen to find out about) that have un-altered pets.

I also donate clothes/shoes to the local Home - Dress for Success.

I take clothes to the goodwill quite often.

I donate a bunch of stuff at work to the "Mercy Closet" for patients that come in that dont have clothes, food, etc. Its a closet the employees can donate stuff to for people in need and for other employees too.

But I would like to be able to do more.

volunteer?? big brother/big sisters... or any of the walks.. they always need people to help set up/run the walks and such... :)

i don't really think that i give back...of course I would help family before I would actually help strangers...so i would have to say if my cousin lucas needed help with anything, i would do my best to help the family as much as i can.

Heh heh, heh heh...you said "tit." :)

We "voluntarily" give money to United Way through work (I allocate my money to local causes). I take all my recyclables to the local Happy Hour. It's been a few years since I've done it, but several years I've either worked in a soup kitchen or volunteered for Meals on Wheels during Thanksgiving. I have a fairly rare blood type, so I try to donate whenever possible. I contribute to disaster funds when possible (at work we purchased hygiene products to send to firefighters that were fighting the wildfires). Every year at Christmas me and my mother "adopt" a family and give them gifts. I contribute money to any and all requests for local officers/firefighters/medics/dispatchers when it is asked for (usually funeral costs for family members). And on April 12th I will be joining several others at the Walk for Autism in Atlanta!!!

When I was actively working I gave back to the community every day I went to work. I kept criminals off the streets. :)

I also donate clothes to Goodwill/Salvation Army, I give money to the American Cancer Society, I do the Relay for Life, and when CHKD does fund raisers I donate as well.

I give back at my job. Because of my company there are several autistic individuals that do not wind up in an institution and get to live a pretty frikkn awesome life :)

I do numerous awareness/fundraising events or Autism Speaks, CAN and NJABA...

I always give my clothes to the Salvation Army.

I do the Susan G. Komen 5K in NYC every year as well as the Relay for Life.

Before when I was at the prison I was way too busy to do a whole lot of the relays we have here....Relay for Life, the ACS relay, etc. because I was working 16 hour days 6 days a week. But now that I can get a normal job (lol) I want to get back into that.

I donate clothing and household items to Goodwill and Big Brother/Big Sisters
I donate money to Wayside Waifs (for animals)
I donate money to Disabled Veterns.

I like to think I help at my job everyday. We represent disabled people and help them with disability funds, etc. I deal with mentally ill and physically ill people everyday. It's trying some days but quite rewarding at the end when you know you've done something good for someone who really needed it.

Where I live now, (Fairfax County), has so much friggin money, that I don't give shit to it, except my yearly closet cleaning of clothing, But, even then, the Salvation Army comes to pick it up...

In Wisconsin, where I used to live, I lived in a tiny town. So, I gave back, by volunteering for 2,104 things with my son's school and frequented local businesses, instead of venturing elsewhere. You know, keep the mom and pop businesses going, etc...?

and I donated money all the time to the school and varous projects, such as the library addition...

Edit: Oh, and I also had 4 kids overseas that I sponsored.
