Seeing someone winds everything round to me hating America and loving everything about Britain despite me repeatedly slagging it off in threads he dosent go in because he knows fuck all about politics outside his own country!...... This is a thread to talk about what is wrong with Britain. I'd like to start off by saying the NHS needs more money, carry on...

Inferior beer

LMAO That coming from somebody who comes from a country that gave the world such dishwater as Budweiser,Coors and Miller not to mention the 16fl Oz pint

Britain is well known for the wide range of fine Ales and bitters(Red Beers ).

:eek Did I just defend Britain???

*Hides head in shame;)*

British Politicians are out of touch with the ordinary people
Britain still uses the £ :p
b
Britain gave the world Rugby, golf, cricket, football(soccer to you yanks) but cant produce world champions in these sports now.

Well, yes, politicians are out of touch with people, here and in USA.

As for the £, not for long, that's starting to change. We didn't join the EU that long ago, don't forget. ;)

As for the sports, well, I don't give a damn who is champion or not - that is the least important thing in life to be honest. ;)

What's wrong with Britain? Inferior beer and they use the wrong words for stuff. A boot goes on your foot, not on the back of your car. And not all cops are named Bobby.

Well, we have good beer/lager really and as for 'boot', that is both in our country, on the back of a car and our feet! :)

All I gotta say is start at the basics...

Cmon it has like 50 bajillion names: UK, United Kingdom, England, Britain.

Well, you can scrub one of those, cos UK is short for United Kingdom - Scotland and Wales decided to separate themselves from England, so that's why it's also called England. As for British Isles, that's cos it is an Island where England,Wales and Scotland are. ;)

Anyway, you have USA, The big Apple, America, The states - same thing as us come to think of it! :p

Actually, Budweiser's Ok, but it doesn't come from USA. ;)

I spent Christmas and Boxing Day (never heard of it before this trip) in London in 2005.

(My wife and I both have divorced / remarried parents, so that's 4 sets of parents to visit on Christmas. We decided to leave the country! :D )

We both LOVED it there. People were nice. Architecture was incredible. History is really alive in some parts of the city. I don't remember the name of the street, but stepping into the clink was like walking back in time 400 years.

I can't think of anything worth faulting Brittan for. You're a small little island in the middle of a cold ass piece of ocean, but you've stood your ground against the evils of the world (alone at times), and in the process helped shape all of Western society.

My hat is off to you guys over there.

PS: Sorry about having to kick your butts those two times back then. :D

Yet I would prefer to live elsewhere and probably would have by now if I could.

You are right about the history and architecture though in London - there are many other places on this small island that are full of history and look as though they go way back in time too.

That was nice what you said Intruder and not seen you for ages.

Take care. :)

I think other than what Sparkler stated, I didn't like that the museums and all in London were only in English. Here in Spain (and the rest of the countries I have been to) you can at least find traslations to 2 or 3 other languages. I speak English, so I could care less, but it makes you people seem stuck up and arrogant.

For all the talk you hear about Americans wanting English to be our national language and if you live here, that's what you should speak...I wiill say that America is making strides toward accomodating the language barriers. I see mostly Spanish translations in written communications here. And considering that many parts of the country are dominated by a Spanish-speaking population, it wouldn't surprise me to see duo-languages eventually taught to the children, much like English is a common language to learn in Europe.
So if Britain isn't doing that too, that may be a bad thing.

Yes, but I wasn't really speaking about that. I was speaking about museums and touristical atracctions. If I am a tourist, I am not supposed to speak English, know what I mean? We don't asume that all tourists comming from the UK or the US have to speak Spanish, that's why we have it written in English (normally also in French and German).

That's odd, cos I was told museums give audio guides which are in different languages and was sure Spanish was one of them. It's a shame you missed out on that, or others missed out should I say, as you speak English (and so fluently, I might add :)).

I can tell you, at least, not in the most important museums in London. Once I was offered an audio guide, but it was in English! :willy_nilly:
I didn't mind though I did think it was a bit stuck up. But my parents (who don't speak a word of English) were pissed.
