Ooo I'm trying to curb my book spending so I've been going around charity shops and picking up anything that appeals to me.

I've got Agnes Grey by A. Brontë, Villette by C. Brontë, Memoirs of a Geisha by A. Golden and Robinson Crusoe by D. Defoe to read once I've finished these awful vampire books.

Which vampire books?

Currently reading Game of Thrones

How is it? Are you watching the HBO series?

I just finished The Stars My Destination a SciFi book written in the 1950s. If feels like 1950's SF, introduces the notion of "jaunting" but is also an example of where in one specific instance, real technology has exceeded science fiction imagination. However, despite this, it is a good read and includes a terrific ending. And it was really interesting is that at the end of the book there was a short essay on the baggage of 1950's SciFi and how this story overcomes it. :)

Btw, I can hold up a most excellent example of 50s SciFi which has stood the test of time: The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury. If you have not all ready, treat yourself! :)

Minor, have you read the Ender's Game series by Orson Scott Card? If so, what did you think of them? How about anything by P.K. Dick?

Just curious since you seem to like sci/fi.

I have not but would be interested. I've always enjoyed futuristic/scifi. I'll check them out. I assume you like them or are just inquiring? I also liked Fahrenheit 451 by Bradbury.

The House of Night series. Don't even read the blurb. So awful.

Urgh I got those really cheap in a discount bookstore a while ago and kind of forced myself to read a lot of them because I always feel you should finish a series, but I had to give up eventually because it was so fucking awful.

It's not often I meet a book that I genuinely believe should never have been published but honestly, they're like substandard twilight fanfiction.

I'm not very far in, but I am really liking it. The series on hbo is what got me to look at the books, which the kids got me as an early fathers day gift. Some of the scenes in the series are wickedly close to how they are in the book, so my mind has the scene playing while I read.

I'm in the same boat. I just picked up the books and I'm going to start reading them after the season finale tomorrow night. I've flipped through Game of Thrones and some scenes seem nearly spot-on with the TV series.

The HBO series is brilliant.

I'm currently reading Great Expectations - Charles Dickens.

Did you read the Charlaine Harris's series- Sookie Stackhouse novels? I recommend them. So much better than the HBO series based on those books, True Blood. :)

I'm torn now. Start reading the book while watching the series or wait until the end of Season 1 to read? Probably the latter. :)

BTW peeps, if you are still reading old fashioned stationary books, I highly recommend Thriftbooks.com. You'll find books there at bargain prices.

Yeah I've read them and watched some of the TV series. I also read Harris' series on the girl who can sense dead bodies... Harper Connelly I think was the name of that series.

Bradbury is one of my favorites. There are so many great sci/fi writers, as well as speculative fiction writters. P.K Dick will burst your brain and Larry Niven's Neutron Star is great. Have you read any Harlan Ellison or are you a strick sci/fi fan?

Günther Grass "Die Blechtrommel" (English: The Tin Drum)
It's one of those "must have read" when you want to study German.

Tbh, I hate it right now. It's boring and sometimes disgusting. One of these books I don't understand the fuss about..

I've been reading Maria Menounos' new book:
Maria-Menounos-The-EveryGirls-Guide-To-Life.jpg

There's a lot of good tips. I thought it was going to be just a biography, but she actually shares things she learned while trying to make it in the business. There's recipes, organization tips, makeup tip and even workout tips. Anyone else seen this, or read it?

Oh, my best friend has this book! She's going to lend it to me when she's done with it, but I think I might just get it myself, since it's more of a reference book.
