I called the apartment office yesterday because with this wind my apartment would NOT stay at 70 degrees. It was hovering at 65 and only getting colder, which in turn, caused the furnace to stay kicked on for hours at a time. It shut off twice on Monday, all day.

So I tell them that I'd have to turn the furnace off and on to get any real amount of air to flow from the vent.

They got around to fixing it today... here's the note they left.

WORK REQUESTED: Doesn't get very warm. Heat works off & on, Has to shut it off and then turn it back on. Front entry door latch lose.

WORK DONE: I calibrated the thermostat, besides that, the furnace is working in perfect order. You might stay warmer if you put plastic over your windows.

So... LET ME GET THIS STRAIGHT.... I pay you guys a monthly rent ALWAYS on time, and you come back at me with *I* should go spend money on this place by buying a plastic wrap to staple across the SHITTY windows which do NOT insulate a daaaaaaamn thing?

Not only do I not appreciate this note, but I don't appreciate the fact that this note is sarcastic and pissy. Is it my fault the wind has been blowing 30 mph and it's been in the negative degrees for the past week?

YOU OWN THE COMPLEX... FIX THE WINDOWS!!!!!

haha I mean seriously, give me a break.

ON A LIGHTER NOTE... I got pre-approved for a home loan. I could have a house fairly early this spring. Thank you astounding credit rating!

sawweeet @ pre-approval

and ahaha - it is your fault. you chose to live up north where it always gets cold this time of year, and where it snows....

seems like you should move down south.

would you like me to send you some? :D
Plastic that is for the windows

Nah... cause I don't have any for my own windows.

so, you are going to stick in front of your computer screen, and do absolutely nothing, including not breathing?

</smartass>

:D

I should punch you in the nose.

Over here in California, there's laws, (I don't know the exact laws), that say that the landlords have to make sure your house has functioning heat; that would include if your apartment is a wind tunnel, so the landlord must fix the windows, change the windows, get window guards, or put the damn plastic over the windows themselves.
You're paying for a safe, secure, comfortable place to live; the landlords, at least over here in the Santa Clara Valley, make a good profit from rent, while doing as little as possible. They need to earn their pay.

In all reality, I first need to sit down and read my lease agreement. But with (possibly) less than 2 months left here... it might not be worth it.

I know all about crappy landlords. I have been around the property rental buisness since I was like 10. My family tryes to keep things in working order but the problem comes when people dont tell you about broken things. I did maintenance on apartments for a coupple years and the lady I worked for was so cheap half the time I ended up rigging things to make them work cause the woman wouldnt spring 10 dollars for something like a new sink faucet. A freind of mine is renting a place that has 2 rotten doors a broken ac, a cracked bathtub and holes in the floor. I keep telling her to send the landlord a certified leter to get this stuff fixed. If she does that and he dosnt fix it she can take his ass to court. Allso if they refuse to fix something and you spend money fixing it a court will force him to pay you back.

Clare, if they wont fix the microwave get someone out there to fix it and take it off the rent. lf he sais something take him to court, he will have to pay.
