Of your Dad? Me and my Dad are so very close. I call him and my Mom every day to check on them.
I didnt know if you guys ever heard a song on the radio and it reminded of your childhood with your parents, etc

I would choose "Thats my Job" from Conway Twitty

I woke up crying late at night
when I was very young.
I had dreamed my father
had passed away and gone.

My world revolved around him
I couldnt lay there anymore.
So I made my way down the mirrored hall
and tapped upon his door.

And I said "Daddy, I'm so afraid
how will I go on with you gone that way?
Don't wanna cry anymore
so may I stay with you?"

And he said "That's my job,
that's what I do.
Everything I do is because of you,
To keep you safe with me.
That's my job you see."

Later we barely got along
this teenage boy and he.
Most of the fights it seems
were over different dreams,
we each held for me.

He wanted knowledge and learning.
I wanted to fly out west.
Said, "I could make it out there
if I just had the fare.
I got half, will you loan me the rest?"

And I said "Daddy, I'm so afraid,
there's no guarantee in the plans
I've made and if I should fail,
who will pay my way back home?"

And he said "That's my job
that's what I do.
Everything I do is because of you
to keep you safe with me.
That's my job you see."

Every person carves his spot
and fills the hole with light.
And I pray someday I might
light as bright as he.

Woke up early one bright fall day
to spread the tragic news.
After all my travel, I settled down
within a mile or two.

I make my living with words and rhyme
and all this tragedy
Should go into my head and out instead
as bits of poetry.

But I say "Daddy, I'm so afraid,
how will I go on with you gone this way?
How can I come up with a song to say
I love you?"

That's my job, That's what I do
Everything I do is because of you
to keep you safe with me.
That's my job you see.
Everything I do is because of you
to keep you safe with me.

this is the song i will dance with my dad with at my wedding.... :)

There's two things I know for sure
She was sent here from heaven, and she's daddy's little girl
As I drop to my knees by her bed at night
She talks to Jesus, and I close my eyes
And I thank God for all of the joy in my life
Oh, but most of all, for...

Butterfly kisses after bedtime prayer
Stickin' little white flowers all up in her hair
"Walk beside the pony daddy, it's my first ride."
"I know the cake looks funny daddy, but I sure tried."
Oh, with all that I've done wrong
I must have done something right
To deserve a hug every morning
And butterfly kisses at night

Sweet sixteen today
She's looking like her momma a little more everyday
One part woman, the other part girl
To perfume and makeup
From ribbons and curls
Trying her wings out in a great big world
But I remember...

Butterfly kisses after bedtime prayer
Stickin' little white flowers all up in her hair
"You know how much I love you daddy,
but if you don't mind,
I'm only gonna kiss you on the cheek this time."
With all that I've done wrong
I must have done something right
To deserve her love every morning
And butterfly kisses at night

All the precious time
Like the wind, the years go by
Precious butterfly
Spread your wings and fly

She'll change her name today
She'll make a promise, and I'll give her away
Standing in the bride room, just staring at her
She asked me what I'm thinking
And I said "I'm not sure,
I just feel like I'm losing my baby girl."
And she leaned over...gave me...

Butterfly kisses with her momma there
Stickin' little white flowers all up in her hair
"Walk me down the aisle daddy, it's just about time."
"Does my wedding gown look pretty daddy? Daddy don't cry"
With all that I've done wrong
I must have done something right
To deserve her love every morning
And butterfly kisses
I couldn't ask God for more, man, this is what love is
I know I've gotta let her go, but I'll alway remember
Every hug in the morning and butterfly kisses...

My dad and I are really close. All my happy childhood memories are almost exclusively with my dad. This song, mostly because it reminds me of the stories he told me when I was really little.

Starálfur. (It's in icelandic)
Blá Nótt Yfir Himininn
Blá Nótt Yfir Mér
Horf-Inn Út Um Gluggann
Minn Með Hendur
Faldar Undir Kinn
Hugsum Daginn Minn
Í Dag Og Í Gær
Blá Náttfötin Klæða Mig Í
Beint Upp Í Rúm
Breiði Mjúku Sængina
Loka Augunum
Ég Fel Hausinn Minn Undir Sæng
Starir Á Mig Lítill Álfur
Hleypur Að Mér En Hreyfist Ekki
Úr Stað – Sjálfur
Starálfur
Opna Augun
Stírurnar Úr
Teygi Mig Og Tel (Hvort Ég Sé Ekki)
Kominn Aftur Og Alltalltílæ
Samt Vantar Eitthvað
Eins Og Alla Vegginna

In English:
Blue night over the sky
Blue night over me
Disappeared out of the window
Me with my hands
Hidden under my cheek
I think about my day
Today and yesterday
I put on my blue nighties
Go straight to bed
I pull the soft covers over
Close my eyes
I hide my head under the covers
A little elf stares at me
Runs towards me but doesn’t move
From his place - himself
A staring elf
I open my eyes
Take the crusts out
Stretch myself and check (if I haven’t)
Returned again and everything is okay
Still there is something missing
Like all the walls

I love my dad too. Everytime someone sings one of the songs he singed to me I always think about him. won't post them because they are in Spanish. But he also loved to tell me poems. I thought it was funny because he sings so bad!!!

My Dad died almost 11 years ago. I miss him terribly, especially now that I am a parent.

The song that will move me quickest to tears is "Amazing Grace" It was played at his funeral.

My dad has worked his ass off his whole life, and, thankfully, will be retiring next year. He has been a Railroad conductor and engineer pretty much his whole life. Unfortunately, he didn't have much time to spend with us kids when we were growing up because most all of his time was either working or with his hobbies (first there was cycling, then there was weight lifting, then there was his Mustang, then came motorcycles... and on, and on...). It wasn't really until we were all very much grown and out of the house, and after he and my mom divorced, that he really started paying a lot more attention to us. It would have to be some song similar to that (most likely a Country song). But I can't think of anything off the top of my head.

Theres a whole 25 songs that reminds me of my dad, not because of a special moment or whatnot, but because he commissioned me to burn him a CD, then played it on repeat for like...a week.

That made me think of "Cat's in the cradle"

My mum & I have this thing about Harry Chapin's Cats In The Cradle.

It's a really great song that pretty much sums up our lives, easy to listen to as well.

Alan Jackson - Drive. This song definitely reminds me of my child hood. Not only of my dad but probably more of my grandfather. Man I miss being a kid hanging out with my grandpa all summer long.

It was painted red the strip was white
It was eighteen feet from the bow to stern light
Secondhand from a dealer in Atlanta
I rode up with daddy when he went there to get her
We put on a shine, put on a motor
Built out of love, made for the water
Ran her for years, 'til the transom got rotten
A piece of my childhood that will never be forgotten

It was just and old plywood boat
With a '75 Johnson with electric choke
A young boy two hands on the wheel
I can't replace the way it made me feel
And I would turn her sharp
And I would make her whine
He'd say, "you can't beat the way an old wood boat rides"
Just a little lake across the Alabama line
But I was king of the ocean
When daddy let me drive

Just an old half ton shortbed Ford
My uncle bought new in '64
Daddy got it right 'cause the engine was smoking
A couple of burnt valves and he had it going
He let me drive her when we'd haul off a load
Down a dirt strip where we'd dump trash off of Thigpen Road
I'd sit up in the seat and stretch my feet out to the pedals
Smiling like a hero that just received his medal
It was just and old hand-me-down Ford
With a three-speed on the column and a dent in the door
A young boy two hands on the wheel
I can't replace the way it made me feel
And I would press that clutch
And I would keep it right
And he'd say, "a little slower son you're doing just fine"
Just a dirt road with trash on each side
But I was Mario Andretti
When daddy let me drive

I'm grown up now three daughters of my own
I let them drive my old Jeep across the pasture at our home
Maybe one day they'll reach back in their file
And pull out that old memory
And think of me and smile and say
It was just and old worn out Jeep
Rusty old floorboard, hot on my feet
A young girl two hands on the wheel
I can't replace the way it made me feel
And he'd say, "turn it left and steer it right,
Staighten up girl, you're doing just fine"
Just a little valley by the river where we'd ride
But I was high on a mountain
When daddy let me drive
When daddy let me drive
Oh he let me drive Daddy let me drive

This one means so much to me. It is almost like my mom wrote it for me.

I showed it to her right be fore she passed and she said it was beautiful. I told her, "not as beautiful as you are mom."

She always told me that dedicating my career for the almighty dollar would destroy me.

She was right and I showed her this song to prove that I understood! I can not listen to this song. It's just too touching!

I share it to you guys.

*Lynard Skynard - Simple Man*

Mama told me when I was young
Come sit beside me, my only son
And listen closely to what I say.
And if you do this
It will help you some sunny day.
Take your time... Don't live too fast,
Troubles will come and they will pass.
Go find a woman and you'll find love,
And don't forget son,
There is someone up above.

(Chorus)
And be a simple kind of man.
Be something you love and understand.
Be a simple kind of man.
Won't you do this for me son,
If you can?

Forget your lust for the rich man's gold
All that you need is in your soul,
And you can do this if you try.
All that I want for you my son,
Is to be satisfied.

(Chorus)

Boy, don't you worry... you'll find yourself.
Follow you heart and nothing else.
And you can do this if you try.
All I want for you my son,
Is to be satisfied.

(Chorus)

i think probably White Riot by The Clash

White riot - I wanna riot
White riot - a riot of my own
White riot - I wanna riot
White riot - a riot of my own

Black people gotta lot a problems
But they don't mind throwing a brick
White people go to school
Where they teach you how to be thick

An' everybody's doing
Just what they're told to
An' nobody wants
To go to jail!

All the power's in the hands
Of people rich enough to buy it
While we walk the street
Too chicken to even try it

Everybody's doing
Just what they're told to
Nobody wants
To go to jail!

Are you taking over
or are you taking orders?
Are you going backwards
Or are you going forwards?

simply becuase i used to allways hear it blaring from the kitchen whenever he was told to make tea, and whenever he did it it was always Shepards Pie, which i cant stand
