i suppose the less spectacular comment would not apply if the shooting took place in a Christian house of worship, whomever carried it out
No kidding...

Pretty dead on... My mom didn't say Sikh or Muslim, she simply called then Indian... I'm probably certain she prob doesn't know the difference either and to be honest the only reason I know is because of shows like Bizarre Foods who actually went to India. Both incidents are tragic but I was pretty indifferent emotion wise. I was a tad appalled at a bit of bigotry but thats my family.I have a few guesses why this is washing over the public.
1. I bet a lot of people in the US don't know Sikhs aren't Muslims. That's probably embarrassing and awkward, as it aligns a person with the shooter.
2. Probably a good deal of racism, misguided terrorist repulse, or bigotry of another kind...
3. In general, I think humans relate to people like themselves much easier than groups they know little about. Most of us could relate to being in a movie theater with your friends and family. Fewer of us can relate to worshiping in a Sikh temple.
That's society.
Snarkiness aside, a single handgun is less spectacular than two handguns, a shotgun, and an assault rifle with 100-round clip.i suppose the less spectacular comment would not apply if the shooting took place in a Christian house of worship, whomever carried it out
interesting that an American would equate weapons with spectacular, those of us in societies with less emphahsis on arms might look to numbers of dead, motives, etc etcSnarkiness aside, a single handgun is less spectacular than two handguns, a shotgun, and an assault rifle with 100-round clip.
Oh good Lord. Get over yourself. I suspect you need to work on your vocabulary.interesting that an American would equate weapons with spectacular, those of us in societies with less emphahsis on arms might look to numbers of dead, motives, etc etc
not wishing to debate gun control - just an observation
of maybe if i knew what a semi automatic weapon was capable of versus a handgun I might understandOh good Lord. Get over yourself. I suspect you need to work on your vocabulary.

i need to watch more tv perhaps
:blah: Woulda coulda shoulda hadda oughta. It still managed to kill a bunch of innocent people and a 32-year veteran police officer..
I think the point is, if a Sikh had done this in a Christian Church, this would have been plastered as front page news regardless of the gun.
It would have been even more news had he done it with a ceremonial dagger. Now that would have spectacular news.
Hey, I'll bet it would make even more news if a chimpanzee armed with a machete ran amok in an all-black gay bar. :smiley24:
:24:.The fact that you used the term chimpanzee along with black shows that you're a racist.

I'm just curious as to why this thread is more about the lack of attention given to the tragedy instead of the actual tragedy itself. Is this thread not an exact example of what the original complaint was??? :dunno To be fair, the Dark Knight thread, at this point, is really a lot more about gun control than the victims, too.
