My work reimburses me for most of my gas... lol so I tend to just fill up when I need to.

ive never jumped on the bandwagon :shrug: if i need gas, im gonna get gas. prices are going to fluctuate because the price of barrels. i honestly couldnt care less.

I guess to some degree, if enough people boycott it could make the news, but gas is not something we can boycott. You can't stick it to the man unless you drive less.

It should be "carpool on April 15, 2012". Technically that does lower consumption a teensy bit.

If people really do want to have an effect, the way to go would be carpooling and/or using public transportation wherever possible. I know that I am sometimes guilty of driving into work instead of taking the subway just because it's quicker/easier.

i have not owned a car in 10 years, if i need to drive i rent and am prepared to pay whatever ti takes, i think if more people got rid of their cars in facour of bicycles/public transport we would all benefit, maybe making gas so expensive that it becomes a luxury is the only way to go

See now I'm lucky to live in a fairly new city that was built with the idea of making public transport easy in mind - there's a huge cycle path network running throughout the city, and buses to pretty much anywhere.


But, I couldn't afford to rent a car. I get the bus because I have a bus ticket. To be honest, if I could afford to have a car then I probably would - it'd shorten my trip to work by about 45 minutes, because I could go direct whereas the bus passes through several different estates. And of course, I'd only have to rely on myself, rather than relying on bus drivers not to be late or just plain not show up.


Cars are convenient. Until there are reliable alternatives, a lot of people aren't going to make the switch. I don't blame anyone for not relying on public transport, it's a bitch.

I realize that - it's why I said "carpooling and/or public transportation whereever possible" - I know it's not feasible for everybody.

I do truly love the autonomy of a vehicle. I take the bus with my boyfriend when I visit and while it's kitschy I just a) don't like people enough to be on a bus and b) can't stand the idea of being inconvenienced with twice the commute time, lugging things on a bus, etc.

That's my honesty.
But when I move there I may need to use it, and will...it will take a lot of getting used to.
