Personally I think responsible pet owners keep their pets in their yard. Pretty easy to install an invisible fence if you don't want to keep them on a leash. It's for their protection as well as respecting other people. Some people are afraid of dogs, even small ones. It's not really for you to judge that it should be ok for him to have to deal with an obnoxious barking dog that chases him every time he wants to take a bike ride.

I happen to agree with this.

So he should alter his route because you've chosen to be irresponsible with your animal? :24:

I will agree that he could have handled it better by talking to you. But, can you honestly say that you would've done anything about it if he had? Or would you have disregarded it as the opinion of one person and told him that if he didn't like it, then he could bike elsewhere? Based on your attitude about the whole thing, I'm willing to guess that it would be more of the latter and not the former. So then you might have ended up in the same situation.

ye to the bolded. it wouldnt be the latter. just because im VENTING about something, doesnt mean i wouldnt have handled it differently if something different happened. its just something you do here, you have a problem with something, you go and address it with that person and see what can be done and things are good. if that doesnt work, then you go to the authorities.

Honestly, I would be happy that the guy didn't get off his bike and kill the dog (at least drop kick it). Since your dog was apparently unsupervised, you have NO right to bitch.

That's exactly what I was thinking.

I'd have been sorely tempted to just kick the dog. :D

i wonder why the guy doesnt have a problem with the people who jog down the same road with their 2 unleashed big dogs (a lab and German Shepard)!? they bark and try to go after other people/dogs/things too, but turn right back around after a few feet, just like Emma

(and i know this because i just saw them and stopped and talked to them about it)

Seconded (or thirded or fourthed or whatever).

You're concerned about the wrong things in life, IMO. Concern yourself w/ your dog and your property...nobody else's matters.

Actually I see both points of view. I had an invisible fence that worked just fine then it broke and we haven't gotten it replaced, we are moving soon, but if anything happens to one of my dogs its my own fault. My dogs are about 5 and 10 lbs.

We have loose dogs running around my neighborhood all the time and it makes my pissed because my dumbass dogs think they are big and try and challenge them. Luckily the dogs look at them and don't do anything but they could hurt them.

Funnily enuf my dogs don't chase bicyclist and I don't let them out if I see people around. We have a fence around our property we are moving to already.

Some people don't like confrontation KD and that's why he might have rather gone to the authorities.

I have to agree with the majority here, and 5th/6th what satinbutterfly wrote.

Here at the marina, Fletcher isn't allowed to leave the boat unless we're taking him somewhere. I can open the door for him to go out and he will just play outside on the boat but knows not to be down on the dock. It's VERY quiet here, but there's a Gas N Go at the bottom of the dock, and there is the odd person coming back and forth throughout the day. They don't need my dog jumping all over them and being in their way when they're just trying to get somewhere, so I make sure he's not.

Like your dog I'm sure, he doesn't have a harmful bone in his body. Fletchers only about 9 months and just wants to play with EVERYONE, but still, that's not the point.

He should have knocked on your door and tried to ask calmly for your cooperation.

Anyhow i thought you lived in Texas?
What Texan would admit to owning a dog that size ;)

Can you even comprehend the fact that you were in the WRONG? It's your fucking fault that the dog was running loose. Don't worry about what the fuck the other guy is doing, worry about what the fuck you are doing.

If you can afford that nice SUV you always wanted, you can afford the proper tools to ensure your pet is under your supervision/on your property.

Does cursing really make the point? LMFAO

I live in the country. My dog is always on a lead or on a leash when outside. For others protection as well as for her own. I'd about die of heartbreak if she were to get hit by a car.... or stolen even.

There are people in this area that let their dogs run amok. If one should come after me or one of my family or even my dog .... you can be sure the dog's owner would be called and if it continued... the authorities would definitely be contacted.

Great idea keeping your dog on a lead even in the country. Where I used to live out in the Georgia countryside, neighbors would just shoot your dog if it came on their land.

you guys are tough :p

I tried not to be w/ my response. Irresponsible pet owners are a pet peeve of mine (no pun intended). My dog is only off her leash in the front yard if we are w/ her and she NEVER goes into the road. And I never have her out front w/o her leash if there are people walking. She's a very loving dog, but she's also protective of her family.

That's awful!

I do know that dogs around here disappear.... as well as cats. People post signs at the stores all the time offering rewards.

The problem is you're mad at the person who reported you, NOT yourself.

It seems you're looking into a fix only because someone reported you.

um, well yeah cause its never been a problem for the 2 years we've had her. if it was, then the city cops who live in my neighborhood would stop and tell us something when they see us everyday outside and when they pass her roaming around. instead they wave at us and go on about their business.

It's never been a problem b/c you've never been reported. And the police officers are probably off duty...and I doubt they're animal control units, either.
