Hey all,

Alright, some of you might have heared about this today, others might not have. All you need to know is in this video right here. It is 30 minutes long, but I'm sure it's more productive than spending 30 minutes on Facebook.

If you don't care and have no interest in watching the video that's fine, but if you already have before visiting this thread, or just watched it here, then I urge you to just read through this web page for one minute. http://visiblechildren.tumblr.com/

So, I was kind of surprised I didn't see a thread about this already on here when I came on, so I just thought I'd start one to get talking about it. So, reactions? opinions?

well i thought this would have more discussion as there is some controversy here, whilst I applaud the idea i do suspect the guy who made the video and has been behind the movement is first and foremost a very good movie maker/communicator, as far as running a charitable organisation maybe not so much, see this is a single issue charity aimed at stopping one man, lot so money is being donated to his group, much travel, many films and a lot of salaries paid from these donations
having said that i applaud the effort, another thing, if they do get this guy arrested who do they go after next, many many countries enlist "children" into armies

I wonder how many people took note last year when Obama sent those 100 advisors last year to help get this guy?

I do have to admit, for the first time in my life I see a useful purpose for Facebook.

a useful purpose for Facebook.

That is the intetesting part for me, in the video they had a graphic of a pyramid with the wealthy decision makers at the top, the claim is that mass communication from those at the base of the pyramid thru the power of twitter and facebook can very quickly turn things upside down

I think we have seen some evidence of this
Ukraine's orange revolution
Egypt' tahir square, however I am not convinced that these viral campaigns are enough in and of themselves, a start but not enough

So i say this to the Boy Scouts of America and the United Steel Workers please keep sending me the monthly $5.00 . You can make a difference;)

Well, it's been making some news

http://news.yahoo.com/blogs/envoy/k...l-video-uganda-conflict-sparks-183106657.html

I'm not the brightest bulb in the factory, but even I know that generally speaking if it doesn't effect Westerner's pocketbooks (AKA oil), people for the most part may give a damn the second they read about it, then forget about it and go on with their daily lives.

Heck, hint of a civil war in Libya and the west supplies air support, people getting massacred in Syria? Whose problem is that?

I'll give mccain credit though, although I didn't agree with him on Libya, he's holding himself to the same standards with Syria.

I can see the point some are making with sour grapes.

Who cares about the overall "technical" aspect of the report?

I have no doubt that 5 or 6 years ago I used Kony as an example of what determines if a country is going to use military forces on a foreign soil, and do you really think anyone cared?

Perhaps a day late and a dollar short, but I for one appreciate the effort.

Hopefully with today's technology, atrocities won't fly under the radar so easily.

Link please about the salaries ?

Every organization spends tons on lobbyist to get government attention and yes they have to fly to the country to see what is really happening..

I guess you can't really make such a powerful film by sitting at home and these things cost..

I do understand that people ask for accountability but again after I saw this two days ago the message I got was not "we will help the people" but rather "we will get rid of Kony and help the children".

How long and how much did it cost to find Osama and bring him down ? Two countries ( Russia and the USA ) in two wars with the help of their allies. Granted Kony is no Osama but in many ways he may have been brighter in flying under the scope by having kids do his dirty work for him..

My biggest fear is who will replace Kony when he is gone.. Someone will fill those shoes and that is scary..

this is a scam

I just watched your video and just because that girl may have never had problems in her Native Uganda does not make this a scam..

I could say my Government is a Total scam.. That's my Opinion..

Have you read up on Kony.. Here is a clip from Wiki

Directed by Kony, the LRA has earned a reputation for its actions against the people of several countries, including northern Uganda, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Central African Republic, South Sudan, and Sudan. It has abducted and forced an estimated 66,000 children to fight for them, and has forced the internal displacement of over 2 million people since its rebellion began in 1986.

In 2005 Kony was indicted for war crimes by the International Criminal Court in The Hague, Netherlands, but has evaded capture.

here is something I found in five minutes on the internet, which alludes to some 31% of funds

http://www.adamsmith.org/blog/international/kony2012-and-the-dangers-of-youtube-fauxtivism

which of course does not prove anything

BUT

I foundf the kony2012 youtube video just as quickly

3 people on $262,000.00.. Do we expect them to not eat as well.. :willy_nilly:

That's $86,000.00 each if you split it 3 ways and we don't know how they spent a lot of their money..

If you had told me they each made $2.5M I would have been horrified..

Here's a link that may interest you..

Marsha J. Evans, President and CEO of the American Red Cross... salary for year ending 06/30/03 was $651,957 plus expenses.

Brian Gallagher, President of the United Way receives a $375,000 base salary, plus numerous expense benefits.

I'm wondering what the truth is about this organization...it's spreading like wildfire, people are treating this organization guy like he's a hero...it's getting out of control and I wonder what is fact/fiction regarding IC's practices.

Not to say I have ANY skepticism about child abuse and atrocities, nor the need for publicity and change...hell this should be standard.

But these online things are so shady, and the speed with which this has gotten popular strikes me as little more than a money making ploy.

Agree.

People need to check into an organization before giving money.

Im not saying the guy in the video is being mislabeled, or that the organization that put the video out is doing it for malicious purposes, but all the angles need to be looked at before one deems something 'legit' that pops up on the internet with such fever like this one did.

I hate to be so cynical, I want to believe this is all for the greater good but...that's not always reality.

True but this is not a new story..

Why does it not get much attention.. Simply because America gets very little Oil from Africa although Africa has lots of Oil.. China has jumped the gun and soaked up as much as it can from those countries as it could care less about abuses while it says it does.. America still has pressure to keep other "friendly" allies happy by buying their Oil.

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/africa/3542901.stm

Who really cares about Africa right.. I mean they had a famine years ago in Somalia and it took almost wiping out 1/2 the country before we all heard about it..

But here's the kicker.. If you have one child molester in your neighbourhood, you can bet thousands of people will scream and spend tons of money to get him out ASAP..

But if he is in Africa molesting hundreds and thousands of children, who cares.. Maybe he is dead so why bother.. Let's all believe this although he has been charges in the World Court of Law..

They kept saying Osama was dead as well.. Great way to keep the pressure off when you don't want to be found.. I guess keeping a low profile is a good way to stay alive while you have others say your dead for the atrocities you have done..

There is no worse crime then to attack, molest and kill children..
