I know that this seems grossly insensitive, but we don't fly the flag at half staff for any other crack heads. Why are we starting now?

I just quickly skimmed the article first...he did it for Clarence Clemons last year too....guess the governor is a bit start-struck.

In all fairness, Darrell, I bet the flag was lowered for people with addictions in the past.

I guess that's the difficulty most are having, I just don't think an entertainer is worthy of the honor.

It doesn't really have an effect on me in either direction. But I do find it funny how human nature seems to dictate we get really riled up about small-scale offenses (like this) and provide a cricket response when faced with really wide scale offenses (like...well, fuck any of the serious atrocities going on in the world).

Changing "wide scale offenses" is hard. Righting a small wrong is easy.

I really wanted to say something witty about Whitney Houston... however, I found myself unable to stop reading the quotes nested in dt3s' sig..

I don't think twitter outrage is necessarily righting any wrong when Christie says he won't back down, and it doesn't matter much anyway.

Better to put effort into a more important potentially hopeless cause, imo.

Agreed, it will leave no lasting impression on 99% of the population, nor will it be remembered in a year's time.

Twitter outrage is a perfect example of democracy in action. Sure, they may not all be his constituents, but the ones who are certainly deserve to express their opinion to their elected official. Besides, if nobody complained just because someone said they wouldn't back down, we'd be in a dictatorship. People complaining about things they can change is a good thing; nobody on Twitter is going to convince warlords in Darfur to stop genocide, but a local elected official HAS to listen to what the voters want.

So the fact that she raised tens of millions of dollars for charities means nothing? She was a celebrity and had star power. Many people affected by her music and many more helped by the money raised by her charity concerts.
She performed for the troops.... :dunno

It was estimated that she helped raise over $100 million for charities/causes... So how much have you?

Me personally, I don't give two craps for whom they lower the flag. You didn't see me pissing when they lowered it here in PA for Joe Paterno and you won't see me pissing about it now.

I guess the only person with the real gripe is the poor slob who has to go through the extra steps of raising the flag only to lower it back down to half mast.
