All I can say is scary.... It was so simple for this guy to steal money from a gift card you have to wonder and yet the store would not return his calls..

A CTV Ottawa investigation has uncovered some security concerns with gift cards sold at Starbucks. A customer of the coffee chain has discovered that anyone can spend the money on the card with a simple tool picked up off the Internet.

wonder why they wont respond? he brings up a very good point

It could be various reasons..

He may not have said, in the phone call to Starbucks, what or why he was calling except that he found a problem with Gift Cards.. One can only imagine how many calls they get about problems with Gift Cards a day..

Cranks calls about this type of stuff all the time I would imagine..

We don't know how or why he went about it.. Personally if it was me I would have asked for a manager and showed him as most Starbucks are "company owned" and very few franchises.

I would say before they got back to him, if he had described the issue in detail, is they may have been verifying the problem and contacting the card company that makes them to find out why this was happening. You gotta remember these cards are made in Asia and it's not like they will have an answer in seconds from the people they sub-contracted these out to..

It will be interesting to see in Tim Hortons, WalMart and other such Gift Cards that are extremely similar have the same issue..
