I have had several rounds of depression, once medically diagnosed and altered with meds(Hurrah for PPD).

It's not so horrible when you can acknowledge it happening, it's a fucking bitch when it hits you like a Mack truck with little to no symptoms.

Amen.

If I pay attention I can catch the tale tell signs ...most of the time....and try to curb it the best I can.
It's when you're suddenly sitting in a world of shit that it's the most ...dare I say it? Depressing.

meds make me tired and mess up with my digestive system

it is a struggle to decide whether to continue. There are some benefits I can see

Worst part is being dog tired.

Depression is really horrible. It's scary to think that's how people, myself included, have to live their life; constantly battling feeling like shit. The meds for it really suck, as well, the side effects are so bad sometimes.

I was diagnosed by a psychologist with severe depression, last month. Actually came as a bit of surprise to me - I mean, I knew I was depressed but didn't realise it was that bad.

When I get depressed all I want to do is sit in a dark room and do NOTHING. Nothing will cheer me up and I just wish THE WORST on everyone around me.

when i was diagnosed with major depressive disorder i was surprised as well. i knew something was off but seriously did not think it was that bad. the combo of meds i am taking help somewhat but i still have periods where i can tell im off center and not right. digging myself back out of that hole is not easy

I take Wellbutrin for severe depression. Much like Pete I was REAL surprised to be diagnosed with SEVERE depression. None the less, I'm not ashamed or anything, and the medication helps a great deal. :D

So is anyone here not depressed....?

It's a little weird to be a minority for being mentally sound. Hell, my partner is bipolar and sometimes suffers from depression himself, so I'm aware at least of what living in close quarters with it is like. But I've only ever had the regular kind of depression, where you get sad because your bills are high, work is difficult and life sucks. Then I just put on a film and make popcorn and wait till I feel better.

I was diagnosed by a psychologist with severe depression, last month. Actually came as a bit of surprise to me - I mean, I knew I was depressed but didn't realise it was that bad.

I had the same diagnosis when I was about 30 years old by a two psychologist. Called it severe depression bouts I suffered from Migraines and was on Imitrex ( Sumatriptan ) when they costed $20.00 a pill..

I was put on all sorts of antidepressants that cause no end of problems for me.. I had an argument with my GP ( family Doctor ) one day asking him if his prescription pad was already pre-stamped with a new antidepressant on it as he would walk in the room and just peel off a new pill to pop and leave without even asking me questions.

That day I walked out of his office and and found a new GP..

It took them another two years to find out I was showing counter reactions to antidepressants..

I was sent back to the psychologist who told me I would have to deal with this for the rest of my life ( the severe depressions ) bouts and that I would have to do it the old fashion way..

Learn to notice when I am down and accept it, start to exercise like taking walks and or bicycle, do "fun" activities even if I don't feel like it and push myself to look at the positive side of life. Hence when i feel like "there is no hope" I need to think about the good things I have in life..

It has worked so far.

I often wonder why regular GP ( Family doctors ) do not encourage people, especially kids to do this more.. Less pills, more exercise and positive thinking..

I'm bipolar... and deal with far more of the bouts of depression than I do with mania. It's not fun, but having finally been diagnosed with it rather than s"simple" depression, I know how to deal with it a lot better than I ever did before. Being on proper meds is pretty helpful as well.
