I am having Rhinoplasty next thursday. 14th July.

I am getting really nervous. Anyone had this done, or knows of anyone who has?
My nose was broken by an ex partner 14 years ago. I have trouble breathing from my nose and get constant headaches daily. This is the only reason I am going ahead with it. I have a slight lump on the top of my nose where is has grown out of shape. I am happy about that though, as I will get my petite looking nose back :)

Apparently it won't be fully healed for a year. But after 2 to 3 months, I can resume normal activities, except obviously no extreme sports. So kickboxing is out of the question for a while.

Getting nervous is natural. Yours doesn't sound like a real big project for the surgeon. If he's competent and you follow Dr.s Orders, you should be just fine.

Try not to be nervous, I'm sure your doctor know what he's doing, as long as you take good care of it until it's fully healed you'll be fine :)

I chickened out of my op after going to see the consultant so I'm a useless reference.

Good luck with your procedure though.

You had a partner who broke your nose? That makes me so angry. Let's go beat that guy with a fucking bat.

On another note, being nervous is natural (as others have said). This is a procedure that has been completed successfully hundreds of thousands of times. I think you will be okay. :D

GIven that it's affecting your breathing, it's a wise decision to have it done. Better be safe than sorry esp when you're sleeping at night, you just dont know if that breathing can be obscured more. :thumbup

I've assisted in rhinoplasties in the OR. They're simple procedures. The only reason it's done in main OR is coz of the importance of closely monitoring your breathing and precautionary measure as airway is the most important thing. If there's not lots of abnormal mass or cartilage to be repaired it can be over b4 u know it. Talk to ur surgeon abt ur concerns- am sure he'll be happy to assist you be comfortable as much as he can.

They'll give you a sedative pill to help u relax b4 u even go into the main OR.

Good luck !

You'll be grand! As far as you'll know you close your eyes and you wake up seemingly 2 seconds later and it's done. Just follow the docs instructions and should be fine!!

Yes, he did. But he got his. I thumped him back and returned the favour.

And thanks all, appreciate the feed back :)

I do understand. The thought of it isn't very nice. Have you considered trying again?

I've thought about it but not seriously enough to go back to my G.P. and tell him I chickened out.

When I went to the consultant, a n00b trainee saw me first and examined me and then didn't really think anything was wrong. Then the main consultant guy came in and one look and said "deviated septum". He said surgery would solve that and also have the side effect of making my nose look better.

I chickened out though - surgery was due for late in the year, close to when I was due to go abroad on holiday and I made that the excuse and didn't go for it.

Still, one day I may go back for it. One day...

I am going abroad 9 weeks after the OP. I have already spoke to someone about it, and it is fine by then apparently. Like I said, no extreme sports and such. So I won't be about to go down any water shoots and such, while swimming. But no biggie for me on losing out on that.

But at least all the bruising will be gone by then :)

Yeah, if it is for your health, try and brave it if you can.

Two years ago, when I first joined this board, I got into a car accident and needed cheekbone rebuilding due to all things Air Bag deployment. ( Moral for all you parents that think having your kids in the front seat is safe )..

I had to walk to the hospital alone at 6 am, a week after the accident, for this surgery where they rebuilt my cheekbone with two metal plates.

My only worry now is setting of Airport detectors.. HA HA HA.. :24:

Long story short, don't put it off.. You will be much better off in the long run and the fears we have are so often unfounded..

No big deal.. We make much more out of things when it is happening and I remember feeling sorry for myself about the accident not the surgery..:( I actually liked the walk.. It gave me time to wake up completely, just perfect for them to inject me with shit to make me sleepy again.. :24:

But I was still awake on the table, but not nervous, so they came at me with the gas.. :D

That was allllllllllllllllllllllllllllllllll I remember.. :willy_nilly:
