Are you ever rude to people because they are hard to understand? Or other communication issues? My daughter has been on a few dates recently with a young man from Azerbaijan. He has very limited understanding of the English language and is fairly soft-spoken. She has been around when people have been rude or brusk with him. My daughter is a little lady but she has enough red-neck in her to quickly back them up and take them down a few ladder rungs as only a Southern young lady can do. :24::24::24:

Only if they are being short with me for not understanding them, which happened sometimes in retail. I would try so hard to understand, and they'd fly off the handle in a couple seconds if I didn't catch on.

Otherwise, not at all, my boyfriend has an accent and I'm always patient in the rare instances we cross wires.

At the same time we have a large influence locally of people from Mexico and the Far East. Many of them have been here a long time and act as though they only understand a few words of English. In the restaurants they own they use Spanish or Korean or whatever among themselves and fain ignorance if you are not giving them what they want. I will give them my "I'm not buying what you are selling look". We usually can come to a middle ground but I have an issue with people playing stupid.:thumbup

I get pretty irate when I call customer service for something and someone who barely speaks English picks up, that is just totally uncalled for and an insult to your customers to have make them deal with that.

You got me. I admit I am very rude to telemarketers. I will not answer or just pick up the phone and hang it back up. I had to be a little less than accommodating the other day with a young lady who was soliciting for a carpet cleaning business. First off let me admit she was very cute and was wearing a very revealing top. Not sure what she might have tried to sell me had I been home alone.:24::24:

I must admit, I tend to have a short fuse with people who PURPOSELY don't speak English. I am in no way a racist, or a bigot. I think everyone deserves to have access to the wonderful opportunities that we have in America. What I get pissed off about are people who come to this country, don't even bother attempting to learn the language, then get pissed off at me when I can't understand them. F**k that!! :mad

One of my pet peeves is having to accommodate other languages instead of them learning English. Spanish seems to have become as accepted as English which I do not understand. I may be wrong but I thought years ago a workable understanding of English was required to become a citizen. I believe learning to speak English was a point of pride when America was still considered "The Melting Pot".

That seriously pisses me off. I understand that we have an ever-growing population of Spanish-speaking people, but seriously people, if you want to come here to LIVE, not visit, then you need to at least be able to communicate efficiently. I hate that every store I go into has most of their signs posted in English AND Spanish, along with every single item that has English AND Spanish instructions.....Americans don't get accommodated like that in non-English speaking countries. I visited Germany back in high school and I was pretty much screwed if I didn't understand things :D To become a citizen here I think it should be required that you learn the language.

Yeah, I'm guilty of this. I have a very low tolerance for people who are attempting to communicate with me in certain circumstances and just aren't equipped for it. When I was a dental receptionist, I was definitely short to people who would come in trying to get dental treatment but only had a very rudimentary grasp of how to even greet me.

Not to mention it gets very irritating when the few words they seem to know clearly are 'benefits' and 'NHS'.

Tourism, fine, I've never been rude to someone who was evidently on their holidays, I wouldn't learn fluent italian just to spend a weekend in Rome. But if you're going to come and live here, learn the fucking language or get used to people getting frustrated with you.
