Maybe the parents want it as a keepsake of their child? Parents keep weird things sometimes.
For example, my mum and dad kept every single one of my baby teeth (apart from one I swallowed) and they are currently wrapped in a piece of paper with a picture of a fairy drawn on it, inside a small silver box. I think it is really fucking weird but my mum said she wanted them as a keepsake.
