I am drawing such a major blank right now!

I got a friend request on facebook. Someone I went to HS with, we had several mutual friends. I added him thinking I could see a picture after I confirmed. No such luck and AS SOON AS I added him, I got a message via chat. Eek! I am so lost right now. I cannot put a face to the name. :( I feel awful.

How do y'all handle these situations?!
 
I am HORRIBLE with names, Karen.

What I typically do is just keep things general and wait for the bell to go "DING" in my head.

Go with something like- "Do you remember old Mr. XXXXXXXX and how he always smelled of cabbage? Ewwwwww....!!" and hope his response sparks a memory.

So we talked about how he was going to pop the question and then he realized she was a drug addict and it's been a few months and he's holding on to the ring waiting for her to sober up... Yeah, no bells ringing, and I'm just kind of like, yeah, mmhmm, oh no. What do you say to that?!

I remember most of the names of people I used to go to school with, or their first names anyway. I had a girl add me the other week who I was besties with in years 3 and 4 but had a huge fallout with in year 5, I'm surprised she even added me lol.

Hey HottyToddyChick, I had the same thing happen to me once. She found me on facebook and I knew I had gone to school with her but I just could not but a face to the name. So I added her and started talking to her and eventually I just had to tell her sorry but I can't remember exactly who you are. I felt bad though, but sometimes there isnt any other way.
 
i thought that till some one went "*** is pregnant"... errr.. who? "you know *** in our year, short blond girl" oh the girl who went around with X. "no that was Y" (im not blanking out names for privacy i genuinly dont remeber who *** was and i dont remeber who i thought he was to get to X and Y)
 
Oh wow. I thought he might have been a band kind, since that was most of the mutual friends, but I'd have remembered someone just two years behind me. There weren't that many of us.

Turns out it was the creepy annoying kid that rode the late bus with me and we were the last two stops. He was SO awkward and uncomfortable to be around. I didn't realize he was two grades below me though... That was what was tripping me up.
