Cell phone radiation

Quite an intriguing/interesting news about cell phone and radiation.

An excerpt from this article states: "The problem is that RF ( Radio Frequency ) can transfer energy waves into your body and disrupt its normal functioning," explains Cindy Sage, an environmental consultant in Santa Barbara, California, who has studied radiation for 28 years. "Here's why that's crucial: Overwhelming evidence shows that RF can cause DNA damage, and DNA damage is a necessary precursor to cancer."

"The Interphone study showed gliomas (brain tumor) were more prevalent on the side of the head people continuously pressed phones to"

From experience, i have taken cared of patients ( business man especially who are constantly on their phones everyday) who have developed brain tumors as stated from that Interphone study

This article also features safety solutions. 2 of which are keeping our cell phones off when not in use and not to pocket them. I know for sure would be hard for us to do as cell phones are our way of connection to friends/ to the world....

I am sharing a video too in the next post

Any ideas? :)

Thanks for the links. I appreciate it :)

Given that the video might be a hoax and maybe other videos too showing youtube users doing the same experiments :dunno Cant media be paid by big cell phone companies to discredit info without 'further' studies? :dunno

The latest news on yahoo shows a DNA/cell damage after further studies.....Do you think Interphase and others have made these NEW studies to prove otherwise? *confused*

yes the cell phone companies could discredit stuff. But the experiment doesn't make sense in the slightest. Here's why:

When you call from a mobile, the signal goes to a tower and then is routed through the phone network and spat out at the tower closest to the recipients handset. The only circumstance that could lead to what is being shown in the video would be if the cell phone tower was in the middle of the three phones. Otherwise, the signals would be shooting outwards in every direction, there would be no concentration of signal, which is what is being implied by placing the three together in that fashion..

There's also no reason why putting phones in a triangular position like that would create some kind of heat in between them. Cellphones do not communicate to each other directly, no matter how close they are together. The signal always goes to a tower, then back out to a phone. The radiation is equal in all directions, so if that experiment worked like that, it should work with three phones miles apart. We know this not to be the case, because if it was, the popcorn in supermarkets the world over would pop constantly.

The experiment should work with 1 phone for the reasons explained above. Try it yourself, and you'll see that it will not work under any conditions.

Here's someone trying to replicate it:

Since I hardly ever use my cell phone I'm not worried either way. But my stepson is on it 24/7 I swear as is his mother. If cell phones do cause cancer there's gonna be a LOT more cancer in a few years.

I think it's perfectly plausible for the radiation in cell phones to cause damage to the human body. But radiation doesn't "cook" things. Radiation passes through the human body as if the body wasn't there, only it doesn't pass through peacefully, it takes tiny parts with it, knocking them out of the body.

The video is massively flawed, the theory about mobiles causing cancer isn't. They are two entirely different things.

You'd have more luck trying to cook popcorn with the phone's battery...

Is this for real, or are you just kidding ? :ninja Phone battery of course is still a part of a cell phone, right? :p :surrender

I've encountered a lot of patients mainly young business people/students who use cell phones 24/7 who've had brain cancers from prolonged use and exposure. More researches now are being done even at local University hospitals due to the increase in brain cancer occurrences and most medical professionals are trying to find a link to cell phone use.

You're right  in the coming years more cancers are gonna be happening....*frightening*

I stand corrected!! This one's the real deal:

You are right to say that of course from the technology world point
From the medical stand point though despite that maybe the proper word is not *cook* and i agree too that unlike the popcorn what happens to our body ( destruction of cells/DNA) isnt immediate....however, though prolonged use of cell phones and that bits of radiation accumulating in us- still puts us at a risk for cancer :(

You're right to say thay they're entirely different.....but related imo :p :surrender

Now if they use an ear bud or whatever, would that lessen the effect?

It can be from the brain cancer, if that's all you're trying to prevent ;)

However, our body is made up of cells all over. From the yahoo news/research done it showed a positive damage to cells and DNA thus our body is still exposed to the radiation if the cell phone is near us- pockets/ bed side table while sleeping etc. There are studies being done now in re: correlation of ovarian cancer and infertility in women and cell phone due also to increase in the number of occurrences on ladies who pocket their cell phones. I know of an OB GYNE MD whose having a lot of women patients undergoing such ailments :(

Radiation is all around us, passing through us constantly. It needs to reach dangerous levels to do any harm.

You see, radiation, doesn't accumulate. It's gone as soon as it passes through you. It depends on the strength of the radiation as to whether or not it would cause damage, coupled with exposure time. So in theory, if a cell phone emits X amount of radiation, if X is below the safety threshold for radiation, the amount of time exposed would make no difference whatsoever as the effects are not accumulative.

According to cancer research UK, there's no evidence to suggest that mobiles do cause cancer:

Interesting reading. This section is good bit:

Is the radiation from mobile phones dangerous?
There still aren't any good explanations for how mobile phones could cause cancer. The microwave radiation they transmit and receive is very weak. This radiation does not have enough energy to damage DNA, and cannot directly cause cancer.

Mobile phones also produce small amounts of heat in the brain, but again, not enough to pose a health risk. Scientists have put forward other theories, but, so far, none of them have been conclusively proven, despite a lot of research.

In 2000, the UK signed up to a set of international safety standards, which set a limit on the amount of radiation given off by phones. These limits have a very large safety margin to protect people who may be more sensitive to phone radiation, such as children.

I'm sure the jury is still out on this one. More studies need to be conducted.

I may agree maybe about the passing of radiation  however our body's mechanism again in re: absorption it's sure not gonna hurt to lessen our exposure to such radiation especially maybe from cell phones which we constantly use. As u say so yourself: x amount of time and x amount of radiation and strength...i still believe it can be cumulative given the knowledge how our cells in our body absorb radiation from the environment- imo, of course :)

The cancer research,UK u did attach btw- was in March 2010. The yahoo news is today Dec 3, 2010. So do you think US had made the 'step further' to find the link and now they have found it? ;)

It may still need more researching of course. But given this NEW info shouldn't that make us be @ the side of caution now for constant cell phone use? I dont think it would hurt....;)
