So Heart sick for Pets

I am so sick in my heart and soul.

I can't take it anymore. I've been fostering dogs, and the last one I fostered (not the rottie) - well their new owners contacted me and said they were getting rid of him because he had chewed up something - after three months!

That dog almost got put to sleep when we rescued it and fostered it. It took him two weeks to warm up to us, and two months for him to warm up to his new owners. And now they are getting rid of him just because he chewed up something!!

Then I am looking on my local cragislist, and there are TONS of ads on there about people trying to give up their dogs and saying they are bringing them to the pound.

I realize not everyone can be an emotional mess like me about this, but a dog should be treated like a kid - you can't get rid of it and you should have to bring it to the dr when it gets sick, and find it when it gets lost.

I am just so sick to my stomach about this whole thing.

And I still have this rottweiler I'm trying to re-home. He is just the sweetest fucking dog too. :(

If he wasn't a good dog it would be easy for me to pick a home, but he just has the biggest heart, and no one is coming forward that would treat him right.

I'm just sick - so sad it's making me sick.

1300 animals put to sleep at my local pound just last month! and our town isn't that big.

You cant dwell on it darl or it WILL make you physically ill.:(

Our local pound is a euthenasia free one thank God.....so are a lot in Sydney now.

You do an awesome job darl....dont give up:(

Yanno, just the name "pet" to me makes me think of an animal that has a loving caring home. Why people take in animals if they can't afford to pay their vet bills or to raise them properly is beyond me. And if you don't take the time to train dogs correctly OF COURSE they're gonna tear something up. You don't just spit out a youngun and expect it to potty train itself, do ya??? Oh wait...some worthless people DO. I'm w/ ya, hon...it pisses me off.

:( It's sad. Where my grandparents lived in the country, people would buy kittens and puppies for their kids to play with at the cottages on th lake, at the end of the summer, they'd dump them by the road to fend for themselves....

I felt bad taking in my friends pug/mutt and then later giving him away to my mom and then later on Bryan's Aunt. He was a sweet dog we just couldn't give him the amount of attention he was demanding from us. He started acting out, pooping on the floor, throwing upon purpose, etc when he didn't get his way. So I had my Mom take him up to Canada with her dog, and then he started doing it again. I thought if he had a play mate he'd be fine, but since they both work long hours... he wasn't happy with that.

So when my Mom came down for another visit, she brought him pack, and Bryan's Aunt caught wind we were looking for a home for him and offered to take him. She loves pugs, and there's always someone home, her kids are older and can give him attention &play, and she had a playmate for him. Perfect home for him now.

My boss has wild kittens living under her deck she was going to get the pound to take, so Bryan and I decided we could take too.. But when she brought them in, they tore up & bit my boss and were running into the door/windows trying to escape.. we decided not to. :( Didn't want my kids getting hurt while conditioning the kittens to be sweet.

Can't save them all.

As a puppy, my dog was going to be put down and I couldn't have it. I knew I could take care of one animal for the rest of my life and when he is gone, I'll adopt another one. I cannot do more than that. I would end up shortchanging my daughter and Cody. I'm lucky in that I can take my dog to work with me but it would be hard to bring two. Animals need companionship and I wouldn't do it if I couldn't give them my all. It's a shame what goes on in the world and how crass and low people can be.

if its any consolation janie, tysons still a nightmare but i'm sticking with him....i can see a great dog there.....he still chews some stuff but he's getting better....and his toilet training is as slow as you can imagine.....you just keep up the good work ok

Janie.... I totally understand where you're coming from. For you own sanity.... you've got to stop trying to save them all.... and you can't think about those that are put to sleep. It will drive you nuts.

I'll always adopt my pets from a shelter. The one I adopted my current dog from has a great policy. If you really can't make it work out when you take the pet home.... you can take the pet right back to the shelter. It's a no kill shelter too.

This place actually does a background check on you. You HAVE to give a Veterinarian as a reference showing prior pet ownership and proper care of said pet. I asked them what they would do with someone who has never had a pet.... they will allow an adoption.... but they do home visits and ask for Vet records for the entire first year.

you can bring your dog to work? where do you work? that's cool.

Yeah, I can do this. I'm 33.33% owner of a family owned business and I get to punch my cunt card quite a bit. I demand lady's hours (for my daughter), work the shit shifts (weekends and one evening) and Cody is with me at all times. I couldn't take in an animal that I couldn't give my all to. I work the weekends because I can perform dispatch and bookeeping duties while my daughter and dog have free run of the shop while the front doors are closed.

What you are doing is awesome, Janie. I know it hurts like hell.

Thats sounds like a pretty good place..rather than just rid of animals they want to ensure a good home:thumbup

Absolutely!

Yeah I was told I could require all those things, but I wouldn't know them for bullshit if I saw them.

I do want to check out the house he goes to before he goes.
It is tough, Janie. You could let someone take the dog and they could turn around and either abuse it or abandon it. But on the other hand.... it could be the best thing that ever happened to the dog as for goodhearted people taking him in. Just let the people know that if it doesn't work out.... to call you. If that would make you feel more comfortable.

Absolutely!
.

That little dog I got a few weeks ago is turning out ok...hasnt shit in the house for quite a while...the first several days werent so blessed though.

Anyway..he was kept in one of those transport kennels alot by the prior owners.....and they were asking about how I would treat him?.........well he eats hot dogs ,corn chips, crackers ,hamburger just about anything you throw in front of him...does yap a little on occasion.buts that getting better....Oh he does all this outside a cage...I dont even have one...for the most part he just want to be where the people are..if he is sitting a couple feet away or whatever he is happy.

Anyway the moral of the story is I could have taken him back if I wanted....but he is far happier here than in a cage...and thus if he was a problem I still would keep him..sure wouldnt send him to a 22 hours a day cage.
