You got to learn to take it much slower than normal, driving in snow, I know that is obvious, but some people don't quite get that:24:

Well, firstly, here there is no "drivers ed" given at school, and you need to be 17 to get a learners permit, and 18 to take the road test.

My father taught me the basic, starting out in carparks when I was young, and then on the road once I got my learners. He passed away before I could take my road test, so one of his friends taught me the finer points of what would be needed in the road test.

That's like here - we can get our Learner's permit at 16, and we have to do 120 hours of driving on it (100 daylight in varied conditions and 20 of night time). Then you take the road test to get your P1 (first Provisional licence) which you have for a year, then take another test on a computer about driving hazards which then gets you your P2 licence (second Provisional licence) which you have for two years, before you then take another road test and get your full licence.
It used to only be 50 hours on the Learner's permit but the number of accidents that happen from P platers is huge down here and the Government made the hours humungous.
So yeah.
That info was probably pointless haha.

For me I would learn to drive in some small quiet streets. I was surprised how easy it is to speed. Then as I get more better at the basic stuff, I would go onto some more busier roads and stuff. The Learner's book you get with your Learner's permit sets out a guide on how to go about learning.

"Here's the car keys.
Here's an empty mall parking lot.
Don't hit anything.
I'll be sitting over there on the bench.
Skinny one makes it go.
Wide one makes it stop."

I grew up on a farm so I learned by driving all over the fields and around the back roads. I was driving my dads trucks and farm equipment long before I was 16. I learned to parallel park between two apple trees. ;)

I'm teaching my 15 year old daughter at present. I actually think I'm not bad at this....I taught my kid brother too.....I have a lot of patience! My own father had a lot of patience too but he and I just rubbed each other up the wrong way driving. Personally I took 4 times to pass. Really I was driving TOO much and picked up habbits you shouldn't until you've actually passed
