So long Sears Tower.
The Chicago architectural icon has got a new name.
London-based Willis Group Holdings said Thursday it's moving into the Tower and calling it Willis Tower, thank you very much.
Willis will move nearly 500 employees into more than 140,000 square feet of the 110-story building. And the naming rights comes for free with the $14.50 a square foot price tag.
“Having our name associated with Chicago’s most iconic structure underscores our commitment to this great city, and recognizes Chicago’s importance as a major financial hub and international business center,” Joseph J. Plumeri, chairman and CEO of Willis Group Holdings, said in a press release. “We are delighted to be making this bold move and firmly establishing our leading presence in one of the nation’s biggest insurance markets, and it will be wonderful for all our associates to work under one roof.”

As a native Chicago girl this completely outrages me. They may as well put a Unionjack flag at the tallest building in America. :yuk

That's fucking gay... America needs to bring American businesses back.
The most puzzling part to me is that the London based company is not buying the name change, it's part of their lease! So for years even tho Sears has been out of the building it's remained the Sears Tower and now for nothing it's going to some overseas company?
Nothing in this world makes sense anymore.

This really just hit home for me, literally.
I've read about how our country is selling out to foreign interests for years now.
I just never believed it til it was in my own backyard :(

Not sure how current this is:

Abu Dhabi Investment owns the Chrysler Building.

Trump and the Japanese use to own The Empire State building, may still

Three major beer companies are now all foreign owned

Boeing's commercial division is run by Canadians

I'll find more . . .

Ok, owned by Robert McCulloch, the chairman of McCulloch Oil Corporation.

McCulloch Oil Corporation, near bankruptcy in 1999. Aquired by the Taiwanese company Jenn Feng Industrial Co., Ltd

The McCulloch name was partially purchased by Husqvarna AB for use in Europe only, where Jenn-Feng equipment is labeled as the Talon brand, rather than McCulloch.

wtf?!?

I didn't hear about this anywhere.

Some idiot is crapping in his pants somewhere about now.

Do you think that the name will stick? I can't see it happening. I'm not from Chicago but I've been there enough times to know my way around. I can't imagine the Chicagoans are going to let this just slide under the radar.

I'm sorry wookiegirl; if I were from there, I'd be pissed as hell!
