At any rate, I don't think someones marital status, marital obligations, or marital abscondence has any effect on their ability to do their jobs. President or not.

I'm not upset, I just find it interesting that one action seems to define a person in so many people's worldviews. Everyone is certainly entitled to their own opinions, just as I'm entitled to mine that it's incredibly short sided to judge people based on one action. If people want to think that I'm immoral or lack integrity, by all means, have at it. I know who I am, and I'm not defined by anyone's opinions of me. I already stated that it was an error in judgement on my part, and that I could have chosen a more appropriate way to go about things. There was some good that arose from it, and there was some bad. But, the past is in the past, and I find it silly to judge someone by one action they made in the past, rather than who they are in the present. I say that not only in regards to me, but plenty of other people who have been in similar situations. I also said that I could understand the assertions a little better if it was in reference to a habitual action, and not a one-time occurrence.

Could distract them from pushing the big red button in time should it ever be required and they are busy.. :D

Back to Cain... what is this "paper trail" that is being referred to? The fact that they had cell phone conversations? He never denied knowing her or giving her money. But that does not mean that they had an affair. In fact, the very LACK of a paper trail could be the thing that exposes some of these accusations as crap. This latest woman claimed that he bought her plane tickets to be with him on the road. That would be a pretty easy thing to track down. If someone produces one travel record that shows he purchased her a ticket to a place he was speaking while on the road, I'd believe her story in a heartbeat. Until then, I have to follow the money, or lack of, and wonder just how much she hopes to gain from being "in the spotlight" right now.

I find it very, VERY suspicious that every single one of the people who have "accused" Cain of things all have a track record of distorting facts and all have financial troubles in their past.

Won't believe it until you see the birth certificate, right? And even then you will come up with a reason to doubt...

So did you afford the same presumption of innocence when Clinton was in the hot seat?

Didn't think so...

As far as the President is concerned??? I don't care about his private life. Don't care about who he sucks, fucks, eats, or blows. Don't care if he's gay or bisexual. If he's good at his job - damn good - I don't care about his personal life. I would prefer to not know about his religious ideas, either. Secular country, secular POTUS. I know people that are wonderful in their professional life, but are lacking in their personal life. A lot of high-achieving people are like this - sometimes their personal relationships suffer.

The problem is people who seem to want to define and make laws about what morals they deem to be "correct" by their standards.

I think there is a huge difference between people who are serial cheaters and people who have made a shitty choice and a mistake. We've all fucked up at times - how you redeem yourself (and correct the problem) after fucking up shows your true character.

With Clinton there were plenty of people that corroborated the story. And there was potential DNA evidence. And there was the little matter of him admitting it. At the time of his denials, I wasn't convinced one way or the other. It was still a he-said/she-said situation. It did seems a lot more plausible, though, without Monica Lewinksy having any stake in the matter. Yes, I will ALWAYS be suspicious when someone is receiving money from someone, STOPS receiving money from someone and then decides to level some salacious allegations against their former benefactor. (See Jackson, Michael)

I know the above quote wasn't directed at me, as I'm just joining in this conversation.

I felt sorry for Clinton when the allegations against him began surfacing. When he looked into the faces of the American people (by way of news camera), stating- "I did not have sexual relations with that woman"... I believed him. At the same time, I felt as though his reference to Monica Lewinsky as "that woman", was demeaning.

When he came clean, I lost all respect for him. Not because of infidelity, but, because he lied. Had he have told the truth right out of the gate, I don't think many people would have thought twice about it.

Interesting conversation here.

Yes. This exactly. Someone pointed out earlier in the thread, that affairs were accepted in the past, but of course it was mens affairs that were accepted.

If tim cheated on me, I wouldn't leave him...not that it's an open invitation for him to cheat lol. But with approx 7 years of being together I just can't see giving up on a marriage like that over one mistake, if he is truly sorry for it. Especially with all that we have built up. If he kept doing it behind my back then he obviously doesn't want me anymore, and I would just deal.
